Charles Michael (Mike) Lewis - Class Of 1974


 
Charles Michael "Mike" Lewis Charles M. "Mike" Lewis of Charlottesville, died on Friday, April 29, 2011, at the Hospice House on Park Street after a nine month battle with cancer.

Mike was born on July 10, 1956, to the late James A. "Jimmy" Lewis and his surviving mother, Peggy J. Huffman. Besides his father, Mike was predeceased by his stepfather, Lacy D. Huffman; a brother James A. "Buddy" Lewis; uncle, James M. Harris Jr.; maternal grandparents, James M. "Bucky" and Florence Harris; and paternal grandparents, James "Gus" and Eula Lewis of North Carolina.

He graduated from Albemarle High School in 1974. He served in the United States Air Force for four years. After his military service he returned to Charlottesville for a brief time, then moved to Mesa, Arizona where he married and raised two children. He worked for over 25 years with construction businesses in Arizona, Texas and Virginia.

Mike returned to Virginia in 2009 and was employed by Capital Interiors, a subcontractor with the new Martha Jefferson Hospital on Pantops.

Mike is also survived by his son, Jesse M. Lewis and fiancee, Miranda, of Mesa, Arizona; a daughter, Ronnie P. Lewis and her fiance, Chance, of Apache Junction, Arizona; his brother, Keith E. Lewis and his wife, Kim, of Morrow, Georgia; half-brother, John T. Lewis of Kennesaw, Georgia; a stepbrother, Greg Huffman of Wichita Falls, Texas; a stepsister, Stacy Huffman Lewis of Lake Jackson, Texas; one grandson, Jaron Jesse Lewis; former wife, Catherine L. Lewis of Mesa, Arizona; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and his very special friends Clifford and Rebecca Carville and daughters of Orange County.

Mike enjoyed sports, especially football, cookouts, and spending time with his children and friends. He was a kind and generous person and will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends.

There will be a memorial service 6:30 p.m Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Cherry Avenue Christian Church with Scott Carter presiding. Following the memorial service, refreshments will be served in the fellowship hall.

The family wishes to express their thanks and gratitude to the H.O.P.E. Organization at Martha Jefferson Hospital, the doctors and staff of the seventh floor at Martha Jefferson Hospital, and to the wonderful staff at Hospice House. A very special thanks to the many residents of Park View at South Pantops for their prayers, many kindnesses and support during his illness.

Timothy Graydon Fredrikson (1974)

 Mike was always one of those people that had a smile, & a kind word for you ... even if you weren't in his immediate circle of friends!! I will always remember our Senior year, & the Lane game at Scott Stadium!! Mike, & the defense virtually were wearing Lane uniforms, as close as they stayed on the Lane offense!! Mike had made his own prediction about the game, & he lived up to it!! Don't even ask what he had written on the strip of white adhesive tape across the front of his helmet!! After the awful 1-point loss the year before, it was SWEET RETRIBUTION for Mike, & the defense to completely shut down the Lane offense, & the Albemarle touchdown pass from Bill Bailey to Greg barbour held up ... ALBEMARLE - 7    LANE - 0

MIKE ... WE WILL MISS YOU!!! REQUIESAT IN PACE!!!
