After leaving Schurz, my sister Jackie spent the next four years at Carroll College in Waukesha, Wisconsin, where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Shortly after graduation, she married her college sweetheart, Jack Schlicht. They had two children, David, born in 1967 and Judith in 1970. Her children both went on to marry and gave her the gift of 5 grandchildren whom she loved dearly. Throughout her life, Jackie was an avid tennis player and a dedicated Green Bay Packer fan. She carried on her love of sports through cheering for and supporting her children in their college athletic events. After raising her children, she began a long career in administration with the Waukesha County Sheriff’s Office. Jackie was also an active member in the Junior Women’s and Waukesha Service Clubs.

Jackie passed away suddenly on May 9, 2005, and two years later her husband Jack also passed away.

Jackie’s memory is kept alive through her children, grandchildren and all who loved her. We are inspired by her courage and the way she lived her life, always dedicated to her family and friends.

Jackie and I became close friends  when we were in  kindergarten at Edgebrook School. Throughout our school years in Chicago, we participated in many activities together, which often revolved around our church.  While attending Schurz, our parents formed a carpool once Edens Expressway was completed, and we enjoyed the luxury of being driven to school together each day.

Jackie had so many wonderful qualities, and one of them was her genuine interest in others. She was always anxious to know what was going on in my life, and did a great job of keeping me informed on her life after she married Jack and moved to Waukesha, Wisconsin. It was always such a treat receiving her newsy letters at Christmastime along with yearly photos of her beautiful children and grandchildren.   Although we did not see each other often,  when we did it was like little time had passed at all.

I feel very  fortunate to have had Jackie as a cherished friend for 58 years. It was a real shock to hear of her sudden death and she will always be missed.  I think all of our classmates who knew  Jackie will agree that she was a friend to all and one of the nicest, kindest individuals that we all had the privelege of knowing.
