Joyce Schmidt (Weichelt)

Many of his friends called him “Windy” because of the great speed at which he could get around the baseball field. He loved his family, his motorcycle, sports and always had time to help someone in need. In July 2003, he was diagnosed with ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis), often referred to as Lou Gehrig’s disease. He passed away in October of 2004. Ron touched the lives of many since his days at Schurz. He married Dolores Cherry (Dee Selesky), also a Schurz graduate, and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary before his passing. Since the mid sixties, he and his family lived in Hoffman Estates and later in Algonquin. They had two children (Randy and Brenda) and five grandchildren, still living in the Chicago area. His career as a field service representative for the RDI Corporation gave him the opportunity to travel all over the world. He and his wife vacationed in over 15 countries around the world. He brought a smile and laughter to all those around him. Ron’s life was a Gift and a reminder to us all to appreciate each day – live, laugh and love!

Dee Selesky Class of February 1962
