James (Jim) F. Compton 1940 - 2022
James (Jim) F Compton, born July 12, 1940, of Glenwood, Illinois died on January 26, 2022. Beloved husband of Shirley (Shirl) Compton nee Mackowiak. Loving father of Mark (Janel) Compton and Dana Compton Wittman {late} (Scott). Cherished grandfather of Lauren Wittman, Ryland Wittman and Grace Wittman. Dear brother to George (Eileen) Compton, June (Earl) Bonnes, Virginia (Arthur) Pfeiffer, Robert (Dorothy) Compton, Russell (Marion) Compton, Dorothy (Patrick) Power, Donald (Sandra) Compton, William {Jack} (Kathleen) Compton, Jo Ann (Thomas) Wilkie, Richard (Christine) Compton, Marie Compton. Uncle cousin and friend to many.
An adept businessman holding an array of executive level titles, the majority of which were in the railcar leasing industry. Jim played offensive guard in high school, earning a scholarship, but chose to move into business ventures after graduating. He was an avid Chicago Sports fan, most favorably for the Cubs and Bears. He also coached little league baseball for several years for his son’s team. Jim was a voracious reader of detective/action novels (Atlas Shrugged was a top read), and an ardent crossword puzzle fanatic.
Jim also enjoyed spending outings with his brothers and sisters, with pinochle as the main choice of activity. He also enjoyed racquetball and rounds of golf with clients, family and friends. His famous phrase when asked what he wanted for birthdays or Christmas was “Peace and Quiet”. His family finds comfort in knowing he has that now.
