Karen Ann Friess (Haussner)

Karen A. Haussner, 72, of Crystal Lake passed away January 3, 2023. 

She was born June 21, 1950 in Chicago to Arthur and Agnes Friess. On September 27, 1974 she married John C. Haussner. 

Karen graduated from Kelvin Park High School in 1968. She was Salutatorian of her class, Vice President of the National Honor Society, and co-editor of the yearbook. After high school, Karen attended Northwestern University where she received her B.S. in Journalism in 1973. She returned to Graduate school at Northwestern and received a Master of Management in 1976. She then received her CPA certificate in 1978. Karen was employed by Bell & Howell, Burson-Marsteller, and as a tax accountant for several local firms. 

Karen was always active, she loved golf, tennis and bowling. She enjoyed trips to the Chicago art museum, CSO concerts, and going on the Chicago architectural tours. She and John also took several trips to Europe, visited most of the National Parks throughout the United States, and spent many enjoyable Februarys in Siesta Key, FL. Karen also enjoyed reading and photography. 

Karen is survived by her husband, John, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Arthur "Arty" Friess. 

There are no services planned at this time. Her ashes will be placed in a columbarium at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or to a charity of choice.
