Kevin Sheldon
I would like thank all of YOU who attended the reunion for without your enthusiasm for the school and for our class, this wouldn’t have been possible. We hope you all had a great time! And for those who couldn’t attend, we hope to see you next time!
The committee decided early on not put out a list of members while putting this together because we didn’t want the reunion to become something limited to people who knew us. We wanted a wide variety of people and we are happy to say, we got it. We also didn’t want to take up too much precious time at the reunion recognizing everyone because we knew reconnecting with your classmates was your number one priority.
However, I would now like to take an opportunity to give proper recognition to the committee who spent countless hours helping to make the reunion a success. As I mentioned Saturday evening, I was just the “face” of the group because I happened to be the guy sending out the emails. The following people were the engine behind the event and it was a real pleasure working with all of them.
Reunion Committee
Dave Garrett—Dave was our “Personnel Director” if you will. He was the guy searching for classmates and he did so with a vengeance. In fact, you probably had some form of contact with Dave via phone, email or letter. If you recall, Dave was the guy you’d see playing chess all the time at school. Well, he treated his people searching like a chess match and did a great job!
Cheryl Kreiman—Cheryl was involved from the very beginning starting with a meeting at the school with the Alumni Association. She really brought a creative touch to our group. It was her idea for the venue and she made all the arrangements. She also helped put together the program booklet, the decorations, music for the evening and she made sure we gave proper respect to classmates who have passed away.
Mia Toy (Gale)—Mia was the one to keep us organized and kept records of what was said in meetings and what we said we were going to do. She has a great attention to detail which is critical when putting together such an event and she made sure we all paid attention.
Robin Washington—Robin was a source of creativity and being a professional journalist, whenever we needed something written, Robin could be counted on to put it together with his own special form of humor. He put the program booklet together including the clever cover that incorporated the “This Is Lane” booklet cover along with an elevator pass that we all heard about back in the day but never saw. Robin also created the various awards that were handed out on Saturday evening, again only as Robin could do.
Wendy Wharton (Kotrba)—Wendy was the one to get this reunion started by setting up a meeting with the Lane Alumni Association and despite what she will tell you, was the real leader of this thing. She always kept us on task and made sure things were done on time and done right. She also worked in many areas including the decorations and setting up the room for the evening.
We also had some people who helped out on the day of the reunion:
Glen Gale—Mia’s husband was relegated to “Coffee Manager” in the corner and while he did a fine job in this role he also helped greatly with setup and takedown.
Joe Lill—Cheryl Kreiman's husband, a Lane grad from ’73, provided great support with registration at the door and with anything else that needed to be done for the reunion including scanning yearbook pages and helping with the music.
Bill Monteleone—Mr. Monteleone, a retired Print Shop teacher, led us in “Go Lane Go” and he did such a great job. Everyone joined in and sung along. He brought back such great memories but now I can’t get the song out of my head. Thank you!
Andrew Schultz (Collins)--Andrew provided the sound system for the music and when at the last minute we found we needed a CD player for "Go Lane Go" he used his Lane ingenuity to rig up a system at the last minute.
John Wajda—John is a classmate who stepped up on the day of the reunion and helped set up the room and provided security for the room while the rest of us left to get changed on Saturday afternoon. It was really fun to have him around and we appreciate the help. I also finally learned the correct pronunciation of his name after 40 years.
The Lane Alumni Association
We would also like to thank the Lane Tech Alumni Assocaition for all their help with this reunion especially in getting a school tour arranged on a busy day when renovation work was in process.
Mary Beth Ficht--Mary Beth was our go-to person at the Alumni Association and she really went to bat for us to make sure we got a tour despite all the obstacles at the time. She provided assistance whenever necessary and always made sure we were well informed...a real pleasure to work with.
Michelle Weiner--Michelle attended our reunion as a representative of the Alumni Association and provided information about the Alumni Association to the group. She was a 1976 Lane grad so she was able to stick around for the evening and see people she knew during her time at Lane.
