Save Our Alma Mater
I have an update on OUR C.H.S. building although nothing has been decided yet. I did not attend the December 14th school board meeting and am not sure if anyone from our class did attend the meeting. However, I got some news from The Gazette concerning the meeting.
Dard Hunter, who is a 1986 graduate of C.H.S. and is active in preservation groups in the area, suggested that an alternative use feasibility study be done concerning our alma mater. He will go to the January School Board meeting with a more detailed proposal. I will update the page on our web site and also send out an update in Class NewsBriefs.
According to an article in The Chillicothe Gazette on Tuesday December 1 the Chillicothe City School Board was seeking community involvement on what to do with OUR building. The Board had asked for feedback for months about what the community wants for OUR building but had had little response. One Board member said he received two comments, and both said to tear the building down.
The building has been sitting dormant for over two years with only occasional performances in the auditorium. It is costing the school district about $80,000 a year. A board member was quoted as saying by this time next year we need to have something done about it.
I am posting some photos I took of OUR building when on tour during the weekend of our 50-year class reunion.
