Larry P. DeLong

    Tragedy on an icy stretch of highway ended a post skating party auto ride Friday evening about 10:35 p.m.  One youth was killed, and six companions injured as their car spun around on a slick spot on the Marietta Pike and slammed into a tree.    

    Fatally injured was Larry DeLong, 17, a junior at Chillicothe High School, and the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank DeLong of 558 Vine Street.  He died at 1:35 a.m. in Chillicothe Hospital. 

    Larry Prior DeLong was born in this city on November 19, 1940, the son of H. Frank and Beulah DeBord DeLong.  A junior in Chillicothe High School he was president of the Golden Eagles Junior Hi-Y and was a member of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church.

    Surviving in addition to his parents are six sisters, Mrs. Russell Drummond, Mrs. Spencer Dixon, and Mrs. Jack Barrows all of Chillicothe; Mrs. Robert Page, Federal Reservation; and Mrs. June Rinehart and Mrs. Evelyn Arledge, both at home; and one brother, Nolan DeLong, Athens.

    Service will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Ware Funeral Home with the Rev. Raymond Welch officiating.  Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home after Sunday noon.

    Pallbearers were Thomas Dixon, James Lungo, David Evans, Robert Lanzer, David Hirsch, Jim Burrus, and David DeLong.

Larry was a great guy and a good friend. He was also the President of the Golden Eagles, the best Hi-Y group of all!

Larry DeLong was a great friend. We rode the school bus together for years and was in most of his classes. He really liked the girls. Jim
