Roy F. Oakes

    Roy F. Oakes, 60, of Ray died 8:10 p.m. Saturday August 4, 2001 at his residence following an extended illness. 

    He was born December 1, 1940 in Vinton County to the late Wendell and Evelyn Pettit Oakes.  On July 2, 1961 he married the former Linda K. Smith who survives.

    Also surviving are daughters and sons-in-law, Brenda and Glenn Hutt - McDonald, Tennessee; and Penny and Keith Frazier - Vinton County; sons and daughters-in-law Ronald and Renee Oakes, Joe and Karla Oakes - all of Londonderry; and Brian and Amber Oakes - Coalton; son Bradley Oakes at home; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law Danny and Kay Oakes - Chillicothe; Larry and Pat Oakes - Houston, Texas; sister and brother-in-law Linda Sue and Woody Adams - Chillicothe; and sister Shirley Jones - Memphis, Tennessee.  He was predeceased by a brother Fred Oakes and a sister Rosa Lee Stout.

    Mr. Oakes served in the U.S. Army.  He was a member of the Sugar Run Church and a twenty year member of Boilermakers Local 105.  He owned and operated Oakes Welding in Jackson County for the past 18 years.

    Funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday August 8, 2001 in the Ware Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Leasure officiating.  Burial will follow in Little Mound Cemetery where military graveside rites will be conducted by the Ross County Veterans Firing Squad.  Friends may call at Ware's from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday.
