William VanVoorhis

(03/01/1941 - 09/03/2014)  William P. “Bill” VanVoorhis, 73, of Chillicothe, died 6:10 a.m. Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in the Ohio State University’s James Cancer Center.

He was born March 1, 1941, in Lancaster, Ohio, to the late Paul and Virginia Grable VanVoorhis. On August 25, 1963, he married the former Amey Neely who survives.

Also surviving are daughters, Ann Elizabeth (Jason A.) Dye, of Chillicothe and Jane Ellen (Matthew) Salyers, of South Bloomfield; a grandson, James E. VanVoorhis, of Chillicothe; a great granddaughter, Kailynn VanVoorhis; a foster daughter, Becky Cash, of Lynchburg, VA; sisters, Marilyn Wendler, of Perrysburg, OH and Jane Gemmill, of Toledo, OH; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by a daughter, Trena Virginia VanVoorhis.

Bill was a member of the Presbyterian Church where he had served as Deacon, Elder, Teacher and Trustee. He was a retired Educator having held positions as Teacher, Principal and Guidance Counselor in the Chillicothe City School System. He was also Director of Student Teaching at OU-Chillicothe. Bill graduated from Ohio University and Xavier and also attended the Ohio State University. Out of the numerous awards that he had received over the years, the Educator Emeritus Award, which he received from the Chillicothe City School Teachers, was his most cherished.

A memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor James W. Grove officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the WARE FUNERAL HOME.
