Ellen M. Walsh (Drennen)

Ellen M. Walsh (Drennen)

(07/17/1941 - 07/18/2014) Ellen Mae Drennen, while being surrounded by her family, was greeted by the Lord on Friday, July 18, 2014.

Ellen was born in Chillicothe, Ohio on July 17, 1941 to the late George and Odessa Walsh.
Ellen graduated from Chillicothe High School in 1959 and Asbury College (KY) in 1963. Ellen then went on to be a missionary in Japan and taught English in the all girl's school Fukuoka Jo Gakuin University. She taught English for three and a half years before returning to the U.S. to marry her "favorite husband" Carl Drennen.

She loved her husband, kids, and grandkids as well as everyone who came into contact with her. Ellen had a gift of making even a perfect stranger feel as if they were a part of her family. She enjoyed continuing her passion for the Japanese culture through IFC at Kent State by opening her home to many exchange students over the years. She devoted her life to telling everyone who would listen about God and the amazing things He could do for their lives if they would just believe in Him. Her most recent project and devotion was making cards for allgirlsallowed.org which is an outreach in China to change the method of injustice imposed on Chinese families because of the One-Child family policy. When Ellen wasn't taking care of someone else, she could be found stamping and making cards or spending time with her husband Carl.

Ellen is survived by her husband of 46 years Carl Drennen, son David Drennen (Tami Haviland), (Stephanie McInerney), daughter Sarah (Jim) Porter, son Mark (Robin) Drennen, grandchildren: Kyle Veon, Sydney Drennen, Garrett Drennen, Kiera Drennen, Riley Drennen, Kaitlyn Porter, Bayley Porter, Emma Porter, Reagan Porter, Sharon Corron, Lana Corron, Lucas Corron, Curtis Corron, Jessie Corron, Caleb Drennen and great-grandchild Gabriel Baker. Surviving also is Ellen's brother Richard (Sherry) Walsh and sister-in-law Terry (Kenny) Evans.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Rootstown United Methodist Church, 4065 State Route 44, Rootstown, Ohio at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 with Pastor Charles Naylor officiating. Family will receive friends from 9:00 A.M. until the 11:00 A.M. Celebration of Life service.

Condolences and memories may be shared at www.wood-kortright-borkoski.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ellen Drennen Memorial Fund, C/O Portage Community Bank, 1311 E. Main St., Ravenna, Oh. 44266 where these will graciously be disbursed to allgirlsallowed.org, the International Friendship Connection and the Rootstown United Methodist Church.
