To all of Betsy's classmates, friends, and family,

Betsy was one of a kind.  She was so sweet and shy in high school.  I lost contact with her except at class reunions.  Then about nine years ago while I was back in Chillicothe for visits with my family, I got to re-establish friendships with many gals and a few guys  from my class of '62.  Especially with the Lunch Bunch and Betsy was one of the gals.  She wasn't shy anymore but still sweet and very caring. She had a deep faith for Jesus and humankind.

We kept in touch after our first Lunch Bunch group gathering.  We shared our past and present lives as well as praying for each other. She loved her daughter and grandchildren so much and was so proud of each of them.  She adored her dogs and found loving homes for them.  Her cats, I pray, were given to good homes too.

The last time I heard from Betsy she shared her thoughts on her life and her death.  It meant a lot to me that she trusted me enough to do that.  I prayed many times that God would heal her.  She was just too young and had too much to give to others and she so wanted to continue missionary work.  But, sadly for us God had other plans for her.  I have comfort knowing that she is at peace and in no more pain and that one day we will meet again.  I love you Betsy Bergman Freeman!

I send my love and condolences to her family.  May her memory always be alive in your hearts.

Respectfully yours,

I knew Betsy throughout our high school years at CHS, and found her to be one of the sweetest, and most shy girls I'd known.  I lost track of her until I visited Chillicothe in 2007 and attended the Lunch Bunch at the Olive Garden.  It was wonderful to talk with her again, and she looked fabulous.  After that meeting, we wrote emails back and forth many, many times.  I knew she was a Christian and had developed into an outgoing, socially adept lady.  I thought Betsy was beautiful!

I had hoped so much to see her again this year, but things did not work out as I had planned.  After such a valiant and brave struggle with cancer for several years, she left us for a far better place.   There is not a doubt in my mind where Betsy is now.  She sits with the angels and sees the face of Our Precious Lord, to whom she was fully devoted.

No more pain now, Betsy, my friend.....and every tear has been wiped away.  One day I will see you again, and then there will be no more parting.  I love you, Betsy Bergman Freeman!  Sing with the saints!!!  Rejoice with the angels!

In my heart always,

Patty Page Gross

Betsy was a brave and strong woman who reached out to many of her old friends and touched our lives.  One of the many of the "good who die too young".  Her spirit lives on in her many friends.

Although I'm writing this well after her death, I was in contact with Betsy for several years before her death, and I am very grateful that I was able to re-establish this connection.  Betsy and I both grew up on Cherokee Rd. in Chillicothe, and our parents were friends through church.  Although I'm sure I knew her before this, my first detailed memory is from a day after I was at school when my mother drove me to their home to play with Betsy because she had been unable to attend school for a long time due to rheumatic fever. I'm sure this long illness early in her school years had much to do with the shyness that others have spoken of her.

Our liives went in different directions in high school and beyond, and I actually don't remember what enabled us to start corresponding by e-mail much, much later following distribution of our class information, that included our e-mail addresses for the first time.  Our messages started to open a new, blossoming friendship that I will always treasure.  She was incredibly open about her life and relationships in Chillicothe and her subsequent marriage and her beloved daughter. She also told me about the cancer she had battled more than once, which she always feared would return.  Because of this illness, it meant the world to her that she was able to go to Africa on a church mission, and the letters she wrote me about her experiences there left a life-long impression on me.  She must have been an awesome ambassador for God's word and the love he feels for all his children, because her own love for the people there was as pure as could be!  I missed our writings so much after her illness and death after returning home, but know there was a reason she was brought back into my life and for the joy it brought me. May she enjoy her new life in Heaven, close to the Lord where she belongs.
