He was born February 22, 1944 in Chillicothe, the third son of the late Ernie and Leora Hartley Goebel.

Pat was a 1962 graduate of Chillicothe High School. Following graduation, he attended Ohio University in Athens and Chillicothe, and later was a 1967 Cum Laude graduate of the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. In 1968, Pat became a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the state of Ohio after having served his apprenticeship at Schoedinger Funeral Service in Columbus. For five years following his licensure, he worked as a contract telephone lineman for Harris-McBurney Company in Ohio and Florida. In 1974, he purchased the former Fred L. Cannon Funeral Home in Crooksville. At that point, he amended the corporate name to Goebel Funeral Home, fulfilling his dream of owning and operating his own funeral home, where he would serve the families of the surrounding communities for the next 42 years. In 1975, Pat was appointed to the Board of Directors of the Perry County Metropolitan Housing Authority where he served as Chairman. Plus, he served as a board member of North Valley Bank from 1989-2007.

He deeply enjoyed hunting, fishing, many outdoor activities and was an avid and expert gun collector. Each year, he and Dorothy hosted a deer camp for friends and family. His quest for knowledge led him to read countless books, magazines and newspapers. Pat was a self-taught carpenter who, over the last 42 years, has completely renovated and modernized his funeral home building. With the help of his late friend Bob Higgins, he designed and built his dream home known as “The Barn”.

I was saddened to learn of Pat's passing. I have many, many memories of him, from me getting run-over by him in foottball practice to sharing many beers (legally and illegally) and smoking nasty gas station cigars.

Reading his obit, he went on to a full and spiritual life.

Rest in peace my friend.

Sorry to say that I received the news of Pat's passing on the day of his funeral.  I attempted to attend but after traveling half way there realized I would not make it.  I say this with much regret as Pat was a good friend.  I last saw him at the 50th reunion we talked of getting together but life interfered.  Pat you are missed by many,  I look forward to seeing you in the future.

I learned about Pat's death late, I'm afraid, and it's hard to imagine our class without him!  I knew Pat from our Kindergarten days when I attended his mother's school in their home. One of my all-time favorite photos is the one of our Kindergarten Class dressed in our powder-blue caps and gowns. I can see many others from our class there, too.  Throughout our school years Pat had the ability to be both a fun guy & cut-up and a serious, hard-working young man with goals. After reading his profile just now, I'm so glad he was able to do the things he most wanted to in his life. It sounds like his new home town benefitted from the kind, friendly helpful neighbor he always was in Chillicothe.  I'm grateful to have known Pat and his brothers Tim and Mike, who I ljust earned are also gone. Rest in Peace.
