Beth Norviel Hammond

Beth Hammond, 64, of Chillicothe, passed away with family by her side at 10:15 a.m., October 8, 2008, in the Adena Regional Medical Center following a courageous battle with cancer.

The family will receive friends at the Fawcett Oliver Glass and Palmer Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, 2008. Following cremation, private interment in Greenlawn Cemetery will be at the discretion of the family.

She was born in Chillicothe on June 21, 1944, to the late Viola (Barrows) and Paul Norviel. In November 1984 she married Roger L. Hammond, who preceded her in death on January 15, 1990. Her mother-in-law, Roxie Hammond, recently preceded her in death as well on September 20, 2008.

Surviving are her two daughters, Robin (Jeremy) Ayres and Carrie (David) North and a step-son, Todd (Tammy) Hammond. She has four grandchildren that she adored - Madisen and Zachary Ayres and Stephen and Scott North. She is survived by a sister, Carol McDonald, brother-in-laws, Dave (Marsha) Hammond, Ed (Kris) Hammond, Jerry (Sharon) Hammond, sister-in-law, Janice Smith and her first husband, Tom (Bea) Breeden. Also surviving are several other relatives and friends whom she loved.

She was a lifelong member of the First Christian Church and the Elks Lodge #52. Beth dedicated most of her life caring for children in her home. She was affectionately known as Momba, Bethie, or Nanny to all that loved her. We were truly blessed to have had her in our lives and she will be missed. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Homeland Credit Union in the name of her daughters to help with her medical expenses and towards the research of kidney cancer.
