Luther Mathis

LUTHER MATHIS Luther Mathis, 57, of Chillicothe, went home to be with his Lord and Savior at 5:08 p.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2000. He was born April 2, 1942, in Chillicothe, to Sylvester and Blanche Fry Mathis, who survive and reside in Clearwater, Fla. On October 10, 1962, he married Phyllis Griffith, who survives. Also surviving are sons and daughters-in-law, Kelly R. and Lori Mathis, Christopher G. and Christina Mathis and Kevin P. Mathis, all of Chillicothe; grandchildren, Alyssa, Ryan, Austin and Connor Mathis, all of Chillicothe; sisters and brothers-in-law, Bette and Herbert Friedman, Chillicothe, Ynema and Jerry Parker, Chillicothe, Sue and Jack Ellis, Athens, Ohio, Dawn Katie and Will Perry, Clearwater, Fla., Dorcas and Andy Amos, Lancaster, Ohio, and Stacey and William Will, Kokomo, Ind.; brother and sister-in-law, Garland Vester and Anne Mathis, Clearwater, Fla.; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Irene and Lester Griffith, Chillicothe; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Geary and Janet Griffith and Connie and Dan Scott, all of Chillicothe; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Luther is also survived by his brothers and sisters in Christ at Calvary Baptist Church. He was predeceased by a brother, Dewey. Luther was the owner of Elliott-Mathis Flowers for 28 years. He also coached the Rams flag football team for many years, winning the Super Bowl in 1980. Each of the boys he coached were very special to him. Luther loved his work, he loved his family, and he loved his church. His greatest joy was his four grandchildren. He left this life far too soon for his Earthly family, but we know without a doubt, he is fellowshipping with those who have gone before, especially, his dear friend, Gary Graves. But most of all, he is in the presence of his Savior and Lord. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 30, 2000, at 11 a.m. in the Calvary Baptist Church with Dr. Gary Norris and Rev. Andy Amos, officiating. Burial will follow in Grandview Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Haller Funeral Home. For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
