Richard Dick D Routt

RICHARD D. ROUTT Richard D. Routt, 62, of Chillicothe, died 9:46 a.m. Saturday, June 24, 2006, in the Adena Regional Medical Center, after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. He was born February 20, 1944 in Chillicothe to Frank H. and Virginia Rutherford Routt. On August 13, 1971, he married the former Doris K. Lawrence, who survives. Also surviving are; a son, Richard D. (Erica) Routt, Jr., of Kent, Ohio; a daughter, Mary V. Routt, of Chillicothe; a grandson, Dylan J. Routt; a sister, Marilyn Kingery, of Chillicothe; brothers-in-law, Wayne (Carol) Lawrence, of Sieverville, Tennessee and Jerry (Susie) Lawrence, of McArthur, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Betty (Jerry) Borck, of Defiance, Ohio, Peggy (Larry) DePew, of Chillicothe and Joann (Chris)Logsdon, of York Pennsylvania and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Frank, mother and stepfather, Virginia and Glen Smith, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. C.E. and Marie Lawrence and brothers-in law, L. Joe, James R. and Russell D. Lawrence. Richard was a graduate of Chillicothe High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He spent his entire teaching career at Mt. Logan Middle School. He was a member of the American Legion and AMVETS. He was a devoted fan and historian of Chillicothe City Schools, member Board of Directors C.H.S. Athletic Hall of Fame, Chairman C.H.S. Centennial Football Comm., Education Comm. Ross County Historical Society, member Bicentennial Publications, Committee and major contributor to Chillicothe, Ohio 1796-1996, Board Member YMCA from 1997 to 2000, was Teacher of the Year-American Legion and Educator Emeritus 2002-2003 Chillicothe Education Association. He was a loving husband, devoted father, joyful grandfather, friend to many and an inspiration to all. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2006 in the Ware Funeral Home, with his nephew, Elder Kelle DePew officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, with military graveside rites by the Ross County Veterans Honor Guard. Friends may call at Wares from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday (today).
