Steven K. Ginder, 65, of Winona died Monday, March 23, 2009, at his home.

He was born May 14, 1943, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to Irvin Sr. and Phillis (Ensign) Ginder. On July 25, 1998, he was united in marriage with Karen J. Rippentrop at St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona.

Steven served his country with the U.S. Navy on the USS Saratoga stationed in the Mediterranean Sea. He was employed by Midwest Metals as a maintenance supervisor.

Steven was a member of St. Martin's Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as an usher. He was one of the founding members of the Winona County Sheriff's Mounted Posse and served as vice president and former president. He also was a lifetime member of the NRA, former member of the Marksman Club and member of the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post No. 9 of Winona. Steven was active in the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization and a big brother of Steve Kestell. He also served as a transportation engineer for Brownie and Girl Scout troops in Auburn, Ind.

During his high school years, he competed in downhill ski jumping for Chippewa Falls High School. Steven was an avid gun collector and loved the outdoors, especially gun and bow hunting, fishing and boating. He also loved horses and did competition riding with his daughters with the Root River Saddle Club.

 Steven was a die-hard Green Bay Packers fan, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Karen of Winona; mother, Phillis Ginder of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; daughters, Dawn (David) Donicht of San Antonio, Texas, and Amy (John) Soukup of Peoria, Ariz.; brothers, Gene "Irvin Jr." (Myrna) Ginder of Rogers, Ark., and Allen (Judy) Ginder of Bremerton, Wash.; grandchildren, Danielle and Davis Donicht, David and Alex Holum, Kaitlyn Wright, Anthony Kirwin and Adam Kirwin; step-children, Christopher Kirwin, Kimberly (Doug) Wright and Patrick (Stacy) Kirwin, all of Rochester, Minn.; nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.
