Welcome to the website for the Festschrift for Steve Woods which is also doubling as this year’s Neurofest for the Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience at the University of Cincinnati.  The event will occur on Friday and Saturday, April 23rd and 24th, at the Radisson Hotel in Covington, KY, which is just across the Ohio River from downtown Cincinnati.  The Radisson has reserved a block of rooms for participants, call 800-333-3333 (or 859-491-1200) and indicate that you are reserving a room at the special $99 per night rate as part of the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Graduate Program.  YOUR REGISTRATION FEE COVERS ALL MEETING EXPENSES INCLUDING DINNER (7:00 PM FRIDAY) AT THE REVOLVING RADISSON HOTEL RESTAURANT.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Venue.  The hotel offers a free shuttle between the hotel and the Cincinnati-Kentucky International Airport (CVG).  It also has free internet services, a swimming pool and work room and a revolving restaurant on the top floor where the banquet will be held on Friday evening.  Rooms are reserved under the University of Cincinnati Neuroscience Graduate Program rate of $99/night single or double.

Program.  There are several activities planned.  Most out-of-towners will likely arrive on Thursday, April 22nd, and there will be informal gatherings of old friends in the lounge area at the hotel that evening.  On Friday, there is a slate of outstanding speakers who have worked with Steve Woods over his career, and the tentative program is listed here.  Friday evening there will be a banquet in the revolving restaurant atop the hotel.  On Saturday morning, any and all attendees are invited to take the mic and reminisce about experiences of working with Steve, showing a data slide or two, or whatever.  Also, feel free to upload videos or pictures after you create your profile.  Also, remember to post any stories in Woods Chat

The official program will end around noon on Saturday, and Steve and Nancy Woods will then have an open house in their home for anyone wishing to visit.  All are welcome.  Directions to their home can be found here, and several graduate students and fellows have volunteered to drive interested participants to and from the house and the hotel.

Posters.  Because the Festschrift coincides with this year’s University of Cincinnati Neurofest, some graduate students in the Neuroscience Program as well as some post-doctoral fellows working in the neuroscience area will be able to set up posters around the meeting room and “man” them during lunch on Friday as well as after the Friday afternoon session and before the banquet.

Publication.  The journal Physiology and Behavior, which Steve edited for many years, has offered to dedicate all or part of an issue to include short articles by attendees (or colleagues of Steve who are not able to make it) if they would like.  Randall Sakai, the current Editor, will be at the festivities and give more details, and a letter from him explaining the special issue is appended below.  Note that submitting an article is purely optional.

Costs:  The $100 registration fee includes the cost of the banquet, lunch on Friday, continental breakfasts on Friday and Saturday and refreshments during breaks.  It is important to register before arriving so the hotel has a reasonable headcount for the banquet.  Graduate student registration is free but does not include dinner on Friday night.  Dinner on Friday night will NOT be offered as an a la carte option.  In order to attend dinner, attendees must pay the full registration price.
