Joan Parks (Hearst )

Mary Ellen was the first person who spoke to me when I entered first grade (as a total stranger) at Sycamore School in Claremont in October, 1947. I remember thinking how very nice she was, and what a good friend she became. Her mom gave her the most wonderful birthday parties when she was very young, and I always appreciated being included.

It was very sad to learn of her passing - I will miss her always.

Marilyn Eley (Sell )

Mary Ellen was one of the first people to befriend me when I moved to Claremont in 1952. We always had fun together, which included a lot of laughting and giggling. Mary Ellen's grandparents took Mary Ellen and me to Palm Springs one spring. We saw Jeff Chandler (a movie star of the 1950's) sitting by the pool. We were both star struck.

Mary Ellen went to "Charm School" one summer. I was so impressed with what Mary Ellen learned, I begged and begged until my family sent me to "Charm School" too. I probably never would have been a model if it hadn't been for Mary Ellen. Thank you, Mary Ellen!!!

I will never forget when Mary Ellen came up with the name "Squeally Eley" for my campaign slogan when I ran for Song Leader. We had so much fun making little mice campaign buttons and posters. All this was done with a ton of giggling at her home and listening to Benny Goodman, one of Mary Ellen's favorite artists. I guess I shouldn't have mentioned it, because now you, too, will all remember me as "Squeally Eley". :-)

I have been to Bainbridge Island many times since Mary Ellen passed away and when I drive by her old home, I still get tears in my eyes. Mary Ellen and her husband Tom had two children, Michael born in 1963, and Ann born in 1972. Mary Ellen remained a single parent after Tom's death in 1980. I still miss you Mary Ellen and your fun sense of humor. I know you are in heaven and still smiling.

Anne Sellery

My name is Anne Sellery and I am Mary Ellen's daughter.  This September 15th, it will be 13 years since she's passed.  On the one hand, it feels like such a very long time ago and then on the other hand, it feels like just yesterday that she was here, laughing about something or scheming up some creative project.

Mary Ellen's son, Michael, lives in the UK, is married, and has 2 beautiful daughters - now 13 and 20 years old.

I currently live in Portland, OR where I am a key makeup artist for NBC's "Grimm".  I know that Mary Ellen would be so excited about this show.  Everytime I step on set, I think of her and how she'd be shouting with glee at all of the creativity and clever ideas going on.

I've posted some photos of Mary Ellen on this site, which are under my name:  Anne Sellery.

Cheers.
