Christopher C. Badger, MD

MORRISONVILLE — Dr. Christopher C. Badger, 62, of Morrisonville, N.Y., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014, at CVPH Medical Center in Plattsburgh, N.Y., surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 4, 1951, in Cleveland, Ohio to Karl and Shirley Jewett Badger.

Chris grew up in Fulton, N.Y., and later Cleveland Heights, Ohio. He graduated from Cleveland Heights High School in 1969. Following high school, he earned Undergraduate and Doctor in Medicine degrees from Brown University. He completed his medical internship and residency in Providence, Rhode Island.

While at Brown, Chris met Elizabeth Vallee, whom he married in 1979 in Newport, Rhode Island. They moved to Seattle, Wash., where they had two sons, Gregory and Philip. The family enjoyed camping in the Olympic National Forest, hiking, canoeing, traveling and visiting the ocean. During this time, Chris worked as a research oncologist at The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle.

In 1996, Chris changed his medical focus from cancer researcher to internal medicine. He and his family moved to the North Country where he joined Dr. Frank Ultee at Great North Woods Medical Center in Plattsburgh, NY. Chris retired from medical practice and worked as Medical Director for Hospice of the North Country. He also served on the Board of Planned Parenthood of the North Country.

He was deeply committed to his family and his patients. Along with his voracious appetite for literature, Chris enjoyed gardening, cooking, playing Free Cell, and sharing his knowledge with the world. Spending time with his grandchildren gave him much joy. His wonderful reading voice mesmerized, thrilled and induced naps. Riding his tractor and restoring the family cottage in Ripton, Vt., were two of his recent pastimes.

Christopher is survived by his loving wife Elizabeth, son Gregory and his wife Amanda of Peru, son, Phil and his companion Kelly Congelosi of Plattsburgh; mother, Shirley of Chagrin Falls, Ohio; brother, Paul and his wife Nancy of Providence, R.I.; brother, Tim of Fairfax, Calif.; and brother, Mark and wife Martha of Oakland, Cali. His loving grandchildren are Dylan, Lillian and Evelyn Badger of Peru. He leaves many dear friends including Barbara Langan and Elaine Osborne. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.

He was predeceased by his father, Karl Badger.

A private memorial service was held at the Hamilton Funeral Home in Peru, Thursday, Jan. 9.

In his memory, please pay it forward with an act of kindness to another person.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation, Planned Parenthood of the North Country, Hospice of the North Country, or the charity of your choice.

The family would like to thank his colleagues and friends at CVPH for all they did for us.

What a beautiful obituary!!
Unfortunately, I remember Chris's name, face, and that we "hung out" in similar circles, but I don't remember any more details about him. He sounds like he was an incredibly wonderful human being.

Chris and I were in the same homeroom (Mrs. Bebb).  We ended up the only two students in Miss Salehar's third year Russian class, for which we'd go to the library and translate long passages of literature.  Once, Chris patiently explained to me that a light-year didn't imply a speed.  He and Alan Morse helped me adjust to Heights High, having moved from New Castle, Pa. after 9th grade.  Godspeed, Chris!
