Maria (June 01, 2005) was well loved by the city of Oberlin in Ohio. It was evident when schools and the University were closed so that all those lives she touched as an Educator and friend could attend her funeral. There were a few of us there from Heights and two of us spoke of fond memories of our youth.

I first met Maria is 11th grade English. I saw her love of little children grow from a day care giver at a local tennis club to a kindergarten teacher in Oberlin, Ohio.

Maria gave so much love to her students, her "children, and her community that when she passed away June 1, 2005 the city closed the schools so the many who wanted to could attend the funeral. I saw two little kids, about grade 3 or 4, bike over to the church. They asked if this was where Mrs. Johnson's funeral was. When I told them "Yes." they parked their bikes, wiped their hands off on their shorts, and went into the funeral!

We had some really great kids on our graduating class. I am glad I had one of the greatest ones for my best friend!

Laughing with Maria is all I remember about her from high school. We weren't particularly close, but we were able to have fun. What a wonderful way to remember someone!

Maria, I hope you're still laughing!
