Evelyn L. Popovic (Schabel)

Evelyn Schabel, 81, passed away at Hospice House on Sunday, August 21, 2016. She was born on October 30, 1934, in Cleveland. She graduated from Collinwood High School in 1954. Evelyn married the love of her life, Edward, on October 24, 1954. They celebrated 57 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.

Evelyn loved to gamble, enjoyed her yearly visits to Frankenmuth, Michigan, and spent many afternoons at Old Mill Winery, making memories with family and friends. She was passionate about the Indians and the Browns, and would frequently write letters to the coaches advising them of what needed to be changed. The way that Evelyn expressed herself best was through food. No one left her home hungry, thirsty, or without a to-go container. She is famous for her stuffing, "red soup", and buttercream frosting. Her greatest sorrow in leaving this world was having to say goodbye to her two great-grandsons, Gray and Jax, as they brought much laughter and joy into her life.

She is survived by her children, Karen Kolish, Rose Marolt, and Edward (Amy) Schabel Jr.; grandchildren, Michael Kolish, Jessica Frcho (Michael Colagiovanni), Alicia Kolish (Ryan Schneller), Samantha (Tom Fording), and Ken Krause; great-grandchildren, Mikaela Fording, Kenneth Krause, Grayson Frcho, Jaxson Fording; sisters, Lillian Vehovic, Dorothy Hronek, Bernice Maljarik; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Marcus and Stefanija Popovic; her beloved husband, Edward; son-in-law, Michael Marolt; cherished granddaughter, Danielle David; brothers, William and John Popovic; and sisters, Marian Penrod and Rose Eckenrode.

Per the wishes of Evelyn, there will not be a public service held. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave. Cleveland, Ohio 44110.
