Donald Sawin - Class Of 1963 VIEW PROFILE

Donald R. Sawin (December 2, 1945 - April 1, 2014) U.S. Veteran Donald R. Sawin, 68 years of age, of Salina, formerly of Concordia, passed away at his home Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He was born on December 2, 1945 in Concordia to Gail and Kathleen (Hiltgen) Sawin. Donald graduated from Notre Dame High School in Concordia in 1963. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era from January 31, 1966 to January 26, 1970. While enlisted, Donald received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sharpshooter Rifle Medal, and the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star. He married Rosalie Dunigan on November 14, 1970 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia. Donald was a Diesel Mechanic most all of his adult life. He was a member of the American Legion Post #76 in Concordia. Donald enjoyed visiting with friends, camping, fishing, and telling jokes. Donald is survived by his wife Rosalie of Salina; sister, Pat Gerard and husband Rex of Concordia; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Leo, Thomas, Kenneth; 2 sisters, Phyllis Gandy, Kathryn Baker; and great niece, Nicole Barleen. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 AM Friday, April 4, 2014 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Concordia with Rev. Michael Peterson officiating. Interment will be in the St. Concordia Cemetery with military rites by the United States Navy, American Legion Post #76, and VFW Post #588. Visitation will be held from noon to 9 PM Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia. Memorials are suggested to the family’s choice in care of the funeral home. Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home in Concordia is in charge of arrangements.
