After attending the Friday night event of the  ALHS Class of 74 20th reunion, we left for Wyoming the next morning.  We were camping in a state park south of Jackson Hole that my parents discovered back in the 60s called Granite Creek State Park.  12 miles of the worst washboard road you have ever driven but well worth it. We got up one morning to head out for Yellowstone.  We first drove over to the bathrooms to make the usual pit stop before heading out.  We had Iowa State Cyclone plates on the SUV.  As we get out of the car I hear a guy’s voice yell out, Go Hawks.  Glad I bit my tongue because it turned out to be a retired pastor and his twenty something daughter from Burlington, IA.  Within the first ten minutes we discovered that he married the couple who set my wife and I up on our blind date.  What came next was the wildest, it was Debbie Dodder’s dad and sister.  He had asked us where we grew up and as soon as I said CB, the questions started flying. Of course one of those questions was, what high school and year which generated a big grin on his face. He then said his last name which I hadn't asked.  Yes, it's defintely one of the best "small world" experiences I ever had and admittedly, I don't think Debbi and I ever spoke more ten words to each other during school but you just never know when a classmate or their family will have an impact on your life.  :)

Debbie was the epitome of cool. She had the best of everything: perfectly thick, full bodied blond hair with enigmatic brown eyes, a rare combination that makes ya look; an alliterated name; a balanced dark brown derby placed strategically and slightly askew on a head that stood above others who was never in any way pretentious, and SWAG, she had the BEST swag!!!! Deb was a fellow risk taker, I adored her spirit, however, with that potential of precariousness was something so unmistakable: she obviously had something to loose: without a doubt Debbie had parents who loved her and a reason to keep herself in check. I was deeply saddened to learn another phlegmatic conversation with the confident Ms. Dodder will not be occurring in real time. RIP DD.
