The ONLY class I ever "skipped" in high school was Ms. Blair's PE class.  Linda Tuggle and I left school one day and walked to the square in Covington - I think to Evans Drugstore for coke or something.  I was scared to death that someone was going to see me and tell my Mama! Walking back to school, I remember thinking, "If I can just get back to that school without anyone knowing, I WON'T EVER DO ANYTHING LIKE THIS AGAIN!"  And I didn't! Ms Blair never said anything - but I always knew that she knew! Loved Ms. Blair!!  Remember those awful blue 'gym suits' with the elastic legs!!

FROM MIKE LASSITER:

-- Class Day 1966 aka Newton's Great Day.
Only Joe Croom of the NCHS faculty was aware
of what we planned. Junior Odum roared up
outside of the auditorium with our custodian,
John Harper, dressed as LBJ and he had more
than a passing resemblance. Buzzy Spears
discharging blanks from his 357 or 44 magnum
probably took 10 years from Mr Sharp's life.
Those were tough transitional times in the
South and everyone needed to laugh. I'm very
glad we were able to provide some laughter.
-- The "Ram Squeeks"
-- Helping to fill up Mr Burke's room with paper,
then being called to Mr Sharp's office while in
Mrs Burke's class. That was interesting
-- Cherry Blossom Festival - Washington, DC
Try to envision Eddie Najjar wiggling thru the
tight passages in the sleeper cars.
-- Leaving school to sell yearbook ads, then
forgetting to return.
-- Death Valley on Tuesday, Friday, and even
Saturday nights. Most people cannot believe
the level of fan support that turned out for
the Rams.
-- Steve Smith drawing the charge against
Troup County that got us to the final in 1966
-- Teen can sock hops - how did we all fit into
that small building ? Then, cruising from the
Cow Palace to the Dairy Queen. We had a lot
of fun for $ 5.00 and of course, never spent
any of the money on toilet paper, Babo, and
other household items !!

Mike, if I remember correctly I believe I was involved in several of those events. I especially remember the filling of Mr Burkes office with paper. Then having to go to Mr. Sharps office. Burke was jumping up and down, saying what a disgrace this was and Sharp was trying to keep a straight face.

We learned that Marilyn (Lord) Schneiter was recently diagnosed with "invasive lobular carcinoma" and is undergoing chemo. Her daughter has set up a blog to keep everyone updated on her progress and at the 'blog site' you can also send messages to Marilyn by selecting "Guestbook" at the top of the page. Please add her to your prayer lists! http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/marilynschneiter.

"REST IN PEACE MY FRIEND"

Jack Lawrence McMichael
(May 24, 1948 - December 29, 2012)

Jack Lawrence “Larry” McMichael, age 64, of Greensboro, Ga., died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, at The Medical Center of Central Georgia in Macon. He was born in Porterdale, on May 24, 1948, to the late William Robert “Bill” McMichael and Lucille Kitchens McMichael. Larry grew up in Covington, graduating from Newton County High School in 1966. He was the first member of his family to graduate college, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in pharmacy from The University of Georgia. The November after graduation, he was drafted and served his country honorably in the United States Army for two years.

On June 25, 1977, Larry married the former Melanie Ann Carey of Oglethorpe County at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Athens. They moved to Washington, Ga., where Larry owned and operated McMichael Drug Company for 29 years and raised two sons. He was twice elected to serve on the Washington City Council. He also served as president of the Washington Wilkes Jaycees and Washington Wilkes Country Club, where he was a long-standing member and where he taught his sons the great game they all shared. He was also a former board member of First Union Bank in Washington.

Larry was a devoted member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Washington. After moving to Lake Oconee eight years ago, he joined Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church. When not working, he enjoyed spending time with his wife and family, boating on Lake Oconee, and spoiling his dog, Mackie.

He is survived by his wife, Melanie McMichael, of Greensboro; oldest son Joseph Alexander McMichael and wife Lilia of Eatonton; youngest son William Pate McMichael and wife Marlene Roldán of Eatonton; grandson Jack Serge McMichael; sisters Kitty Hudalla of Alpharetta and Cheryl Robinson and husband Doug of Cumming; brother, Willie McMichael; beloved dog, Mackie McMichael; a multitude of other devoted relatives and dear friends in Covington, Washington, and across the state.

A Mass will be held Wed., Jan. 2, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Ga., 30642, with Very Reverend G. Philip Ryan, V.F. and Father Jimmy Adams officiating. After the service, the family will receive friends at a reception at their home, 1220 Armor Point, Reynolds Landing, Greensboro. The family requests that any memorials be made to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 1015 North By-Pass West, Washington, Ga., 30673, or Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, Ga., 30642.
