Obituary:
Dale English Gordon, age 67, of 105 Sherwood Dr., died at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center Monday, May 12, 2014. A native of Augusta, he was born December 23, 1946, the son of late Lyndon Clyde and Ivylyn English Gordon, Sr. Dale attended Johnson County High School in Wrightsville, GA and was a graduate of Newton County High School where he lettered in all five sports. He played football at the University of Georgia his freshman year until an injury ended his football career. He earned his Bachelor of Science and Master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia. He also received a Specialist Leadership degree in Administration and Supervision from Auburn University and a Specialist Leadership degree in Trade and Industrial Education from the University of Georgia. Dale started teaching in Fulton County School System; then was Vocational Director at Washington County School System. He came to Americus City Schools in 1977-1994 and then went to the Macon County School System where he was Principal at the Middle School and High School until retiring in 1999. He loved watching his grandchildren play ball, going to the beach, fishing, hunting, water sports and especially his family. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Americus. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Flowers and Rev. Rusty Mauldin officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 13, 2014, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at Greg Hancock Funeral Chapel and at other times the family residence. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Scott Law Foundation, 205 E. Lamar St., Americus, GA 31709. Pallbearers include Billy Bryan, Mickey Tharp, Luke Sweat, Richard Fussell, David Farnsworth and Doug Parish. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Myra McCall Gordon of Americus; two daughters and sons-in-law, Katrina and Chris Revell of Americus and Tracy and Raymond Evans of Valdosta; a son, Spencer Dale Gordon of Americus; a brother, Phil Gordon of Americus; four grandchildren, Brandon Revell, Cale Revell, Mary Kate Evans and Charlie Evans. He was preceded in death by a brother, Lynn Gordon.
