Charles B. Greene (1943 - 2010)

Charles B. Greene, MD 66, of Nampa, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010 at a Boise hospital, of a sudden heart attack. He was born September 15, 1943 in Park Ridge, Illinois to John and Beatrice (Busch) Greene. Chuck entered the Cincinnati School of Medicine after graduating from Northern Illinois University where he majored in zoology in 1965. He married Barbara Griffin in 1967.
During his last semester of medical school he did an elective in Kenya, Africa working with the Masai and Kipsagese tribes as a medical missionary. He had the opportunity to go on a safari and big game hunt. Charles did his internship and residency at Little Rock, Arkansas, and later settled in Nampa in 1973. He had a private practice in Nampa for 37 years.
Although Chuck was born in the Midwest, he was a true "Westerner" at heart and at any time of the year could be found exploring the high desert, rivers and streams of Idaho and eastern Oregon. Chuck was an accomplished hunter and fisherman. He always had a well trained English Setter for bird hunting, and enjoyed hunting elk, deer and antelope. Dr. Peter Jensen and Dr. Neil Farris were hunting buddies for trips to Wyoming for antelope hunting. He also used a jet boat for fishing, crabbing and clamming in Oregon and Washington. Chuck did fly fishing in Belize, Costa Rica, Key West and deep sea fishing in Hawaii, Cabo San Lucas, Mazatlan and Ixtapa. He also enjoyed exploring the desert in his Landcruiser.
Over his many years Chuck found joy and pleasure caring for his patients and had no plans to retire in the near future. He believed that doing what he loved would keep him young. He will always be remembered for his boyish charm and joy for life.
In 2008 Chuck married his long-time companion Ann. In doing so, he gained official step-dad status to his son Bryan Hollingsworth and daughter Carrie Hollingsworth. Chuck loved his kids and spent many, many years watching them grow, teaching them the joys of the great outdoors, life-skills, and had made Bryan a special hunting and fishing buddy of his.
Chuck enjoyed life and was a practical joker, hunter, and photographer. He played the harmonica, and liked biking, botany, geology, water and snow skiing, fishing and rafting.
In the last few years, Chuck especially loved his home in Baker City, Oregon and found that conservation of wildlife was a must if future generations were to enjoy the outdoor life that he had enjoyed. He was enthusiastic about the Elkhorn Wildlife Area Program which feeds elk at twelve locations throughout the winter in Baker County, Oregon and restores habitat for many different species. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Chuck's name can be made to the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife program: ODFW-Elkhorn Wildlife Area, 3406 Cherry Ave NE, Salem, OR 97303 (Please place Chuck's name in the memo area of your check.)
There will be a private memorial service at a later date. The family encourages everyone to step outside and enjoy the mountains, river and high deserts around you.
