In Memory

Scott Brantley

After high school Scott joined the military and served in the Gulf War. After leaving the military he moved to Atlanta for about a year. The next summer he took a job at the Grand Canyon. Scott lived out west for a few years working as a carpenter building houses. It was out west that he got his dog LT. Scott returned to Atlanta and was living a few blocks down from roommates Bill Spence, Ben and Jimmy Young. Scott was working as a carpenter and was preparing to start his own business building cabinets and furniture. He had a serious girlfriend, Kim, who he liked a lot and told friends she was the girl he was going to marry. Scott's sickness came on suddenly. He was having severe headaches and numbness in his arms and legs. He went to the VA hospital which was free for veterans. They diagnosed him with a brain aneurysm but Scott didn't feel comfortable with the VA hospital. Planning to go to a different hospital, Scott checked himself out of the VA hospital against doctors’ orders. He met up with friends that night (Friday). Saturday night he went out with Kim and Sunday he went to Dalton to fix his mom's roof. He told his mom that he loved her and drove back to Atlanta. He died that night. Bill Spence adopted Scott's dog, LT.

We used to all hang out at Laura Spence's house and have a ball. We kept up with each other for a while, but as we all know, it gets harder to do as our lives get busier. Scott was a good guy and a good friend, I know a lot of people will be missing him this Sept.

Scott and I were good friends and I miss him. He will certainly be missed at our reunion.

Last saw Scott years and years ago...at a gas station...we were both filling up ole pick ups and he and I suddely realized who we were on the other side of the pump...Even though we were not close buddies at that time, he struck conversation right up about the old days at DHS...Scott was a great person, God bless him!

When I moved to Atlanta I moved in with Laura Spence, Bill Spence, and Jimmy Young. Scott would always come over to visit. We eventually all moved downtown and continued being close friends. The last time I saw Scott was at a Halloween party at Eye Drum in Atlanta. We had the best time. I think it was two months later I heard from Bill that Scott had been complaining about a bad headache. He went to the emergency room, didn't feel like waiting and went home. That night he died of an aneurysm in his sleep.

Scott had gotten his life together and was doing really well. I'm going to miss his friendship and that beautiful smile he had.... Scott you ROCK!
