Katherine E. "Kay" Bombara, 95

DOUGLAS - Katherine E. "Kay" Bombara, 95, passed away peacefully aside her loving family on June 12, 2018 at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester where she has been a resident the past 7 years.

She is survived by many nieces and nephews including, her "Kindred Spirit" niece Mary Sullivan and her husband Jerry of Plymouth, as well as many great nieces and nephews including Katherine Loomer "her names sake" and her husband Brady of Southboro, Elizabeth Sclama ad her husband Gregory of New Orleans, LA, Stephanie King and her husband David of DuBois, PA. She was predeceased by 3 siblings, Mary Bombara, Anna Budzyna, and Stephen Bombara. Born in East Douglas on October 29, 1922 she was the daughter of Joseph P. and Mary A. (Mercak) Bombara and was a former resident of North Street.

Kay was educated from Boston University, and graduated from Harvard University receiving her Master's degree. She had been a resident of Simsbury, CT for most of her life and worked for the Simsbury Board of Education for 31 years, where she advanced in her career to Director of Special Services, retiring in 1979. She was dedicated to her faith and her Slovak heritage, and loved traveling and nature. A very active member of her community, Kay was always volunteering, and cherished her wonderful friendships, as well as her relationships with former students. Family was most important to Kay and they will miss her deeply. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of Notre Dame long-term care as well as hospice for their outstanding love and support given to Kay and her family over the years.

Her funeral will be held Thur. June 14, 2018 from Jackman Funeral Home with a Mass in St. Denis Church, 23 Manchaug St., Douglas beginning at 11 am., burial will follow in St. Denis Cemetery. Calling hours in the church will be held prior to Mass from 10-11am.
