Margaret Rhoades (Kmiecinski) - Class Of 1948

Margaret Ann "Peggy" Kmiecinski, 86, passed away at her residence in Bonita Springs, FL on March 12, 2017. She was born on August 16, 1930 in Danville, PA, a daughter of the late Atwood C. and Margaret (Scott) Rhoades. She attended St. Joseph School and St. Cyril Academy. She married Carl Kmiecinski on April 11, 1950 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. They lived at 208 Center Street since Labor Day in 1951. She was a 4-H leader for 25 years, a Girl Scout leader for 25 years, and led two troops at the same time: St. Joseph Church and Grove Presbyterian. She took the Cadet Scouts to the National Jamboree in Washington D.C. in 1970. She took 35 Cadet Scouts from both troops by bus on a 15 day trip to Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming in 1972. Any girl could go, regardless of ability to pay, as the troop sold hoagies to fund their adventures. Peggy was also the President of the National Council of Catholic Women at both the parish and deanery levels, as well as a member of Happy Joe's. She has been a winter visitor or "snowbird" to Florida since 1982. Her winter home is in Bonita Springs, FL, where she lived with her husband Carl, and daughter: Ann Louise. Over the years she travelled to all 48 contiguous states, Alaska, Ireland, nine countries in Europe, and spent a month in Portugal and Spain for her 50th anniversary. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother: William Rhoades and a sister: Frances R. Garvey. She is survived by her husband Carl; two daughters: Ann Louise Kmiecinski of Danville, Mary Kay Loreman and husband Barry of Mechanicsburg; one grand-daughter: Sarah Loreman Snyder and husband Tim of Carlisle; four great-grandsons: Tyler, Sean, Jason, Sam; and a nephew: Michael Rhoades of Pittsburgh. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at 11:00 AM in St. Joseph Church, 18 East Center Street in Danville, with her pastor, Rev. James Lease celebrating Mass. Friends may visit at St. Hubert's Chapel from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Danville.
