Sister M. Marilyn (Ann) Pitonak Sscm - Class Of 1950

Sister Marilyn (Ann Therese Pitonak), 82, died at Emmanuel Center on Monday February 23, 2015. Born in Torrington, CT on October 6, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Demsky) Pitonak. She attended Sacred Heart School, Torrington High School and graduated from St. Cyril Academy, Danville, PA. Sister received her B.S. in Education from Marywood University, Scranton and an M.A. in Religous Education from Fairfield University in Connecticut. Sister entered the Sisters of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Danville, PA on September 8, 1951, was received as a novice on August 13, 1952, and professed vows on August 11, 1954. Sister Marilyn was engaged in the ministry of education in parish schools in Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and South Carolina, where she taught grades 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. At St. Cyril's in Binghamton, NY she served for three years on the Liturgy Committee. She spent a number of years as a tutor and clerical assistant at Blessed Sacrament School in Charleston, SC. Her last years were spent at Maria Hall and Emmanuel Center. She is survived by her brothers Andrew and Joseph Pitonak of Torrington, CT and her cousins, Mary and Theresa Chupka, Wilkes-Barre, PA. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Msgr. John Pitonak and Stephen, two siters, Mary Walla and Rose Trivella, and by a cousin, Sister M. Irma, SS.C.M. The recitation of the Rosary will take place on Friday February 27, 2015 at Maria Hall, Danville, PA followed by a Wake Service at 11:00AM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30pm.
