From Gene Yarbrough:

Linda Clark recently sent a message indicating Tink had died. He was my first playmate, and I wanted to put an In Memory statement about him on the website but haven't seen his name listed yet. Best--Gene

From Larry Durham:

Deceased Classmate: Edwin "Tink" Wyle
Date Of Birth:
Date Deceased: 11-18-2021
Age at Death:
Cause of Death: Cancer
Classmate City: Decatur
Classmate State: AL
Classmate Country: USA
Was a Veteran: No
Survived By: His wife, Barb; a son, Jeff; and a daughter whose name I do not recall (Linda Clark Boyd probably knows); there is a grandson, but I don't know his name or if there are other grand children (Linda may know that, too)

From the time we met at DHS to his untimely death last week, “Tink” Wyle and I were the best of friends. From fishing in his boat – aptly named “Ah, Fooey!” – to sharing our love for antique automobiles, our mutual interests overlapped and bonded our friendship. One summer while in college, we worked swing-shifts together in the chemical lab at Chemstrand; years later, we both worked for TVA. We always exchanged phone calls immediately after the Iron Bowl with the loser placing the call. I’ve never known anyone who could lift my spirits through a simple conversation – be it over the phone or in person – more than Tink could. His good-natured humor and caring friendship will be missed by all who knew him. -- Larry Durham

With Tink's passing, I have lost a lifelong friend.  A grandfather dubbed him "Tinky" early on when he noticed that Tink was forever tinkering with anything mechanical.  No wonder that in later years he beautifully restored classic automobiles!  As kids, Tink and I were best playmates down on Moulton Street, getting into mischief daily and racing each other to the corner service station for Dixie Cups on the rare occasion the ice cream truck made a wartime delivery.  Tink, Johnny, and his wonderful parents were like a second family to me, even taking me  with them up to Philadelphia and the New Jersey shore one summer for a visit with Mrs. Wyle's family--one of the highlights of my childhood.  I loved Mrs. Wyle's truly gourmet dinners, and Tink loved my mom's fried quail suppers, complete with french fries, scratch biscuits, and quail gravy.  Mrs. Wyle was den mother of our Cub Scout den, and Tink and I were proud members of BSA Troop 60 at Central Methodist.  In fact, Tink and I were tent mates at a camp-out on the river behind Stone Lumber Co. (compliments of Sammy's dad) one very stormy night when my Dad came out with other parents to bring us home and found Tink and me sound asleep in our sleeping bags--even though the wind had blown our tent away!  Whenever I got to Decatur in later years, I always made a visit to the Wyles' home, and it was terrific to see Tink and Barb at out recent class reunions.  You will be missed, dear friend.

I am saddened  to read about Tink's death.  Words cannot express what a great man he was and how much he will be missed. I shall always remember him and his love for the old cars! What a genius he was in restoring older automobiles. Mary Jean (Fennell) Williams
