The Reverend Doctor William (Bill) C. Spencer

 

The Reverend Doctor William (Bill) C. Spencer, 71, of Gilbert, Arizona, upheld divided in Gilbert Dec 23, 2013. Bill was innate Sep 24, 1942, in Defiance, Ohio, to Willis and Louise Spencer. He attended Spencer Elementary, Defiance High School and warranted his Bachelor’s grade from Defiance College in 1966. He perceived his Master of Divinity grade from a Evangelical Lutheran Theological Seminary in 1970 and his Doctor of Ministry grade from Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary in 1991.

He was consecrated into a Christian method of a Lutheran Church on Jun 7, 1970, by a Reverend Edward Dodt as certified by a American Lutheran Church. His method was served during Our Savior’s and Faith Lutheran churches in Calamus, Iowa; Grace Lutheran Church in Tripoli, Iowa; East Valley Interfaith Counseling Center in Mesa, Arizona; Our Savior Lutheran Church in Marshalltown, Iowa, and Hope Lutheran Church in Powell, Wyoming.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Spencer; sister Ann Hillman; son Mark Spencer (wife Ashli and grandchildren Rachel, Abby and Kayla); daughter Julie Spencer (husband Michael Perry); was preceded in genocide by son Paul Spencer (daughter-in-law Stephanie Interrante and grandchildren Luke, John and Rebekah). He is also survived by stepsons Craig Schwemm (wife Sheri and grandchild Hillary), Troy Schwemm (wife Kerri and grandchildren Hannah and Brianna) and Chad Schwemm (grandchildren Brett, Derek and Nick).

Memorial services will be hold during Desert Cross Lutheran, 8600 S. McClintock Tempe, Arizona, during 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan 4, 2014, with refreshments to follow during a church.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers or memorials, contributions be done to a ubiquitous account of Riverside Lutheran Bible Camp in Story City, Iowa.

Joseph Clemens Jr.

 

Joseph C. Clemens Jr., 73, of Defiance, passed away on April 13, 2014, at the Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was born on March 14, 1941, to Joseph and Ruth (Kirkendal) Clemens in Defiance, Ohio. On June 22, 1963, he married Evelyn Rau. Joseph and Evelyn lived in Defiance, Ohio.

Joseph attended the Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren. Prior to becoming an owner/operator at Clemens Trucking, he worked at Doc Erman Trucking, Webb Brothers Excavating, Wayne Glore Trucking, and Thomas Keller Trucking, all in Defiance. When Joe was not spending time with his family and grandchildren, he was usually found in his woodshop building things from scrap lumber, working on his truck, or enjoying the outdoors mowing his yard.

Joseph is survived by his son, Todd J. (Judy) Clemens; daughter, Sherri L. (Fred) Hammersmith; son, Scott R. (Chris) Clemens, all of Defiance; 12 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn J. Clemens; father, Joseph Clemens Sr.; mother, Ruth Clemens; brother, Clayton Clemens; and grandson, Scott Hammersmith.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2014, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., and 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the church. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at the Poplar Ridge Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Benjamin Polzin officiating. Burial will take place at the Poplar Ridge Cemetery.

JERRY BERGEON

 

GREENWOOD, S.C. -- Jerry F. Bergeon, 72, of Greenwood, S.C., passed away on Friday, July 18, 2014, in his residence.

He was born on March 10, 1942, to George and Unita (Peppers) Bergeon in Defiance, Ohio. Jerry served in the U.S. Air Force from 1961-66. Jerry also worked as a laborer for DMP. He was a member of AMVETS Post 1991, and a former member of FOE 321 Eagles Aerie.

Jerry is survived by his daughter, Melanie (Jason) Hinkle of Sherwood, Ohio; sons, Chad Bergeon of Defiance, Ohio, Christopher Bergeon of Brooklyn Center, Minn., and Phillip Bergeon of Brooklyn Center, Minn.; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; brothers, Jan Bergeon of Defiance, Ohio, Gene Bergeon of Sarasota, Fla.; and sister, Joanne Amunson of Dyersville, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Brian Bergeon; and a brother, Jack Bergeon.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 23, 2014, from 2-8 p.m. at Schaffer Funeral Home, Inc., Defiance, Ohio. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 24, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Josh Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery, Defiance.

Thomas Warnimont

1942 - 2014

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. -- Thomas Gerald Warnimont, 72, born November 16, 1942, died Friday, December 19, 2014, in his home after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Tom is survived by his loving wife, Anita Warnimont; daughter, Kelly Jo Arce (Gumby/Gamaliel); grandchildren, Seth Seinkner and Sam Seinkner; son, Kurt Thomas (Deb) Warnimont; grandchildren, Nicholas Warnimont, Kayla Warnimont and Jami Good; stepsons, Chopper/Eric (Deborah) Betts and Brent (Julie) Betts; and grandchildren, Regan Betts and Jacob Betts.

Tom grew up in Defiance Ohio, the only son of Gilbert and Velma Warniment. Tom enlisted in the Navy in June of 1960, ultimately becoming a 3rd Class Petty Officer and received the First Good Conduct Medal award in June of 1963. He was honorably discharged from the Navy and notably served on the USS Kitty Hawk. In 1993, Tom retired from General Motors, Defiance, Ohio, after almost 30 years of service.

Tom and Anita enjoyed spending time together over the last 21 years in the sunny state of Florida. Tom was a friend that you could count on during the easy and tough times, never expecting anything in return.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the members of Gulfside Hospice. Their dedication and effort to provide quality care over the last several days were a heartwarming blessing to the entire family. We thank God for the gift of Tom's life and the blessing of the time we spent with him.

James R. "Wally" Scheirer

1942 - 2017

 

 

PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. — James Robert "Wally" Scheirer Jr., 75, Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away May 20, 2017, at Tidewell Hospice House in Port Charlotte, Fla.

Wally was born May 9, 1942, in Columbus, Ohio, the son of James Robert Scheirer Sr. and Alice Katherine (Harmon) Scheirer. In 1960, he graduated from Defiance High School and was inducted into the U.S. Navy in June 1960. He served in the submarine service aboard the USS Bashaw, Hawaii, and was honorably discharged in 1966.

He returned to Defiance in 1966 and was sworn in to the Defiance Police Department May 1, 1966, promoted through the ranks to chief of police on July 3, 1991, and retired September 1, 1993. Wally was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Defiance, American Legion of Port Charlotte, Eagles Aerie 372 in Defiance and a life member of VFW Post 3360, Defiance.

He is survived by his daughter, Stacey Jo Scheirer, Laguna Beach, Calif.; son, James Patrick Scheirer, Defiance; a grandson, Trenton James Scheirer, Defiance; two brothers, Thomas (T.L.) Scheirer of Greenville, S.C., and David (Cathy) Scheirer, Melrose; two sisters, Sharon (Victor) Nagel of Hudson, Fla., and Sandra (John) Andrist, Defiance; and a half sister, Beth Scheirer, Fort Wayne, Ind.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepfather, LeRoy H. Allgire.

Wally will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews, along with his K9 companion, Sophie. He was a loyal New York Yankees fan, an avid John Wayne buff and a WWII historian. Wally took great pride in his service to his country and his community.

A celebration of his life/memorial service will be held Tuesday, June 20, at 11 a.m. at VFW Post 3360 reception hall, with Father John Stites officiating. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, veterans section, Defiance.

Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider memorial donations to Tidewell Hospice, Port Charlotte, Fla., and the Fraternal Order of Police, Defiance.

Donna Bresnan

 

Donna M. Bresnan, 75, of Defiance, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017, at CHP Defiance Area In-patient Hospice Center in Defiance.

She was born March 22, 1942, to John and Florence (Haley) Bresnan in Illinois. Donna was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, a volunteer in the church office, and active with the food pantry. She taught Spanish at Mt. Vernon High School, and retired from Defiance County Department of Human Services. She enjoyed traveling with friends, and going to baseball games and hockey games with her family. Donna was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and Fort Wayne Komets. She will be missed by her family and her dog, Cocoa.

Donna is survived by her brother, John (Debra) Bresnan of Defiance. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Carolyn Bresnan.

Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at Schaffer Funeral Home, Defiance. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Friday, August 11, 2017, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Father Randy Giesige officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverside Cemetery.

Judith Ann “Judy” Norden, 75, of Defiance, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at the Toledo Hospital.

She was born October 26, 1942, to Paul and Lolita “Minnie” (Peterson) Wagner in Defiance. She was a 1960 graduate of Defiance High School. On January 4, 1965, she married Ronald Norden, who resides in Defiance. Judy was a member of St. John Lutheran Church. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Judy will be sadly missed by her loving spouse of 52 years, Ronald Norden; her mother, Minnie Wagner of Defiance; her children, Gary (Cheryl) Norden of Belleville, Mich., Jeff Leys of Saline, Mich., Julie (Julian) Lamas of Allen Park, Mich., Kim (Brad) Buchholz of Defiance, and Kevin (Lynda) Norden of Defiance; godson and nephew, Derek Wagner of Texas; eight grandchildren, Kristy Kinzel, Jani (Robert) George, Andrea (Jeff) Schaffer, Daniel Norden, Anastasia Lamas and Issac Lamas, all of Michigan, Lani (Josh) Robinson of Kokomo, Ind., and Jonathon Norden of Defiance; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, David Wagner (Ann Cramb) of Ayersville.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul F. Wagner.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Friday, November 3, 2017, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 4, at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating. Burial will follow the service at Riverview Memory Gardens.

Susan (Velliquette) Plummer

WELLINGTON — Susan J. Plummer, 75, of Wellington, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, December 20, 2017, at Elyria University Hospital in Elyria, Ohio.

She was born April 9, 1942, to Lawrence and Georgia (McCullough) Velliquette in Defiance. Susan was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Defiance. She earned her associate’s degree and worked as a nurse for several years at various nursing homes until her retirement. She enjoyed bird watching, cross stitch, crocheting, NASCAR, and shopping. Susan was very proud of her children and their accomplishments, and spending time with her family was a priority.

Susan will be greatly missed by her five sons, Matt (Pam) Plummer of Continental, Mark (Shari) Plummer of Scapoose, Ore., Scott (Lissa) Plummer of Defiance, Craig (Mandy) Plummer of Windermere, Fla., and Kelly (Jen) Clingaman of Racine, Wis.; 21 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; sisters, Pat (Larry) Parker of Kings Beach, Calif., Linda (Duane) Rowberry of Salt Lake City, Utah, Debra (Doug) Kemp of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Jeannie (Mark) Casmar of Wellington, Ohio.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Jason Plummer.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2017, at Schaffer Funeral Home in Defiance. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. Friday at Schaffer Funeral Home, with Rev. Donald L. Luhring officiating.
