RE: MOTORCYCLES (what else ???) Posted Tuesday, April 9, 2013 11:10 PM I had a motorcycle once, but also had two young sons and one wife. The one wife wanted to keep the two young sons alive - so my motorcycle went on the auction block - sad! |

RE: MOTORCYCLES (what else ???) Posted Wednesday, April 10, 2013 07:54 AM I know what you mean. Both my sons and I ended up with dirt bikes and we traveled the Rocky Mountains on them. My oldest son, Adam (whos nick name is "Instant Panic") never hit a tree while riding, they always hit him. Alll of us survied the bikes with no major injuries. |

You may want to consider adding photos of your "FLEET" of motorcycles you have owned in the past. I know you have some in your profile, but it would be cool to see them here.

Tom,
OK, photo of the CanAm is on my "to do" list.
We need to check out that sign for Lickskillet. Hope its still there!
The last time I rode to Knockemstiff, the sign was gone

Richard,
If I'm remembering correctly, Paul Hoeffel had a Cushman Eagle. One day, after school, I was on the back and he "popped" the clutch-----DUH----I landed on my head! Guess I wasn't hurt--I remember continuing the ride. Nobody owned a helmet back in those days.

I remember Denny Engel, Jim's brother that one. You don't have to feel bad about falling off. There was a girl that always bugged Denny for a ride on his Eagle at noon time. He finally gave in, she set down side saddle, her ride lasted about 15 feet before he hit one of those pot holes back of the school. She flew off, she was not injuried, just her pride & nylons. She got up and slapped Denny & stormed off. Jim & I would steal a ride on one of them after we finished delivering the papers. Denny put a stop to that also.

Fred and all, I started out riding with a Cushman Eagle (used) and it had such high compression I couldn't kick start it. Alfred Horsey (who also had a Cushman Eagle) would come over and push the kick start lever down because he was so much bigger than me, he could overcome the comprssion. With the help of a Zeller factory mechanic we put on a compression relef valve that I could open and close to help "me" start the scooter. Remember, we could get our MC drivers license when we turned 14 and the ride was less than 5 bhp (break horse power). My Dad then traded it for the Harley Davidson Super 10 because he felt it was safer for my weight. I have had at least one bike in my guarge ever since then.
Have a great ride and looking forward to hearing other stories about your love for motorcycles.

I have talked to a local Cushman collector. I might be able to arrange for an Eagle & a Road King Model to be on display , during our class tour of the city museum on Saturday afternoon. Interested??

Yes, would be interested to see the Eagle. I have gone to a couple of the Sturgis rallys and they always have 4 or 5 Cushman Eagles riding around with the big boys. They always draw lots of looks. While at Sturgis you see some awsome bikes and some strange ones to. See what I mean:
Cushman Eagle at Sturgis
Chrysler Show Bike with Viper engin. Has clocked >200 mph
Imagin driving down the road and seeing this coming toward you. From Sturgis

On my return trip from Florida in late March, I took a side trip through the country side west of Atlanta, Ga. There were scenic roads and small villages. Then a sign got my attention. It was a really outstanding, professional sign for washing cars and detailing vehicles. If your in the area, you may want to stop (or maybe not) for a professional grade car or motorcycle wash. I'm sure they will remove all those bugie bugers off your M/C wind screen. My guess is their motto would be: "We does it wright"
Great use of the english language !!!

In response to Tom's encouragement to check out this forum, I did, and truly enjoyed reading what you boys have been up to! I kind of like that 3-wheeler of Fred's. I rode with my brother once, out to the State Dam, and in spite of his warning, I burned my leg on the tailpipe! But I thought that riding on that bike was such a freeing feeling - you are really out in the open and one with nature!
You guys give great meaning to "senior" - enlightened, experienced, and enjoying your endeavors! I hope you keep it up for many years to come! ~Peg(gy)

Hello Peggy,
OH------I guess its Peg now!!
I'm pleased that you took Tom's encouragement. I think I can speak for all "us boys" that we truly appreciate a post to this forum by a female! It's in our blood; most of us have been riding for years. I love the feeling of the hilly, twisty roads and, God willing, hope to continue riding.
Thanks again for the post.

Just got back from Playa del Carmen, Mexico. Cab driver drove down this little street that was lined completely with the locals' cycles. I wanted so badly to take a picture to send you all but he buzzed us by so fast and with my limited experience with the Spanish I couldn't get him to stop. There were all colors, mostly small and most looked like they were probably dated to the 60's. I know something about those cycles you guys are talkin' about. Fred Barns had a blue and white square one. Larry Schmunk once gave me a ride home on a burgandy one. And Mike Whetestone drove so fast I'm not sure what color or shape he was on. So there!!!!.

Faye,
Thanks for the post!
I'm really happy to see that you have the colors down pat on the cycles.
