Judy married and had one daughter, Lori Hoeffel Stroede and one grandson Jonathan Stroede, the "apple of her eye." Judy received an Associates Degree in Mental Health at Toledo University and worked as a case worker at Williams County Social Service  and later as a Counselor for Maumee Valley Guidance Center.  She then worked for the Postal Service becoming the Postmaster of Bryan, Ohio and also as Postmaster of Defiance, Ohio.  After an injury and surgery, she was physically unable to return to work for the Postal Service and worked for Western-Southern Insurance Company until her death. Judy was an excellent clarinetest and enjoyed playing in the Defiance High School Band and the Defiance College Community Band.

Pam and I lived across the street from Judy in high school and our families enjoyed picnics and trips to the lake and various band activities together.  Pam and I were honored to be in clarinet trios and quartets with Judy at contest.  Judy introduced me to her cousin, my husband, Phil Steele.

In 2003, my two daughters and I visited Judy on Christmas evening and enjoyed catching up and talking about old times, as her daughter and grandson were there as well.  I was so shocked to get the news three days later that Judy had passed on Dec. 28.  My husand and daughter, Lucy returned for the funeral but I had taken ill and was not able to attend.  I thank God we had that special evening together, Christmas of 2003.

Judy and I became friends my Junior year. We actually borrowed sweaters back and forth. I can still see this one very bright red, yellow and orange sweater that looked like it had been hand knit from Switzerland. She loaned it to me for a special occasion. I was so afraid I would get something on it... But more importantly, I can still see Judy marching down Clinton Street with her clarinet. She always stood very straight and tall. She had a beautiful smile and was just as friendly as could be.

We became friends as soon as we moved to Latty Street.  It was great just walking across the street to chat, practice clarinet, or practice the newest dance steps.  Judy watched American bandstand and always knew how to do the latest steps. We would go down to her basement and  practice.  Then we would go to the Skylark and try it out.  We had great times on band trips and at band camp .Even after high school,  I would go to her house and she would give me tips on makeup and hair styling.  She was a very classy lady.
