John McDonald was an amazing, wonderful person. If you didn't get to know him as a person, then you missed something very rare. John had heart problems that hit him young, and continued till his death which was very guick and sudden. I got to know John very well after I returned from Viet Nam in 1971. His health problem at that time taught him something that takes some of us a long time to learn................life is very short and sweet. He was the first person I ever met in my life who was not afraid to say, "I love you" to anyone and he meant it. It is still hard for me now to express myself as easily as he could. I had breakfast, lunch and dinner with John and his family in San Antonio the day he died. We had returned to Del Rio that evening and recieved the phone call the following morning. It was sudden and terrible news that hurts me to this day. He was a great friend, a wonderful person and we would all be better people if we were as sincere and caring as he was. God bless.
