Duane Jerald Anderson

Duane Jerald Anderson

Duane “Bimbo” Jerald Anderson, 80, passed from this good earth on Saturday morning, June 5, 2021. He went quietly in his sleep, with his wife by his side. Duane was a good man, a noble man, who held a deep faith in mankind, and loved those he loved more deeply than many realized.

Born in Des Moines on December 7, 1940, to Harold and Jane Anderson, Duane lived and flourished on the East side, finally graduating from East High in 1958. After several attempts at college life, Duane moved on to the military, spending over two years in the Army stationed in France. He enjoyed telling stories of his time in the Army, often saying he tried to start a war there but was not successful. After the Army, Duane returned to Des Moines, and spent the rest of his life here. He worked a variety of jobs through his life, from working as an orderly at Lutheran Hospital to working as a welder at Brady Manufacturing (where he was known as Bimbo) and finally working as a bookkeeper for Construction Aggregate Products and then Bailey Roofing Contractors. He enjoyed sharing stories of his fellow employees, with such colorful names as Bow Wow, Squeak, and Mo, and tried to stay in touch with many of them through the years.

Duane is survived by his wife, Marilyn (Ellis) Anderson; his brother, Leonard (Linda) Anderson of Urbandale; three daughters; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
