Margaret “Maggie” Doetkott, age 76, of Cornucopia, passed away peacefully, Thursday, May 4, 2017 at her home. She was born July 27, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Donovan and Mary Owens. 

Maggie graduated high school in Des Moines, IA and continued her schooling at the University of Minnesota where she received a degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. Maggie married Gerald “Jerry” Doetkott in St. Paul, MN in 1973 and they resided and raised their daughter in River Falls. 

Maggie’s love for children and education led to her 30 plus year career in teaching at Highland and North Park Elementary Schools in Columbia Heights, MN. Following her retirement, Maggie and Jerry moved to their home in Cornucopia where they have lived for the last ten years. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church. 

Maggie's favorite past-time was sports car racing where she drove race cars and navigated for car club races and rallies throughout the years. She also enjoyed gardening and taking memorable trips to Ireland and Hawaii with her family. 

She is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Catherine; and nieces and nephews. 

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Bill and Rich. 

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Cornucopia with Fr. Kevin Gordon officiating. 

Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday and a reception will follow the Mass at the Cornucopia Town Hall.
