We are sad to announce the passing of Michael Edward Hawkins, 82, on October 8th, 2020 and his wife HilahJane “H.J. / Tiger” (Rex) Hawkins, 80, on October 5th, 2020.

They recently resided in Morgan Hill, California, but had spent most of their time living in Saratoga and Lincoln, California.

HilahJane passed away from a hemorrhagic stroke as Mike was being prepaired for surgery due to multiple health issues found after a fall.  He never woke up and we believe he died of a broken heart.

Mike was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 31st, 1938, to Neal Price and Marjorie M. (Copple) Hawkins, both from Kansas.

Tiger was born in Des Moines, Iowa on June 8th, 1940, to George Robert and Myrtle Ellen (Wilcox) Rex, both from Iowa.

Mike and Tiger were married on June 18th, 1960, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Mike graduated from West Minster College in 1960 and was commissioned at Fort Benjamin Harrison as a 2nd Lieutenant; he served in the Army from 1960 to 1962. He was a Human Resources Manager for 50 years, working for both Fairchild and National Semiconductor before retiring. They lived in Singapore where Mike had been stationed for work before returning stateside in the early 80's.

Tiger graduated from William Woods College in 1960. Her first business endeavor was Tiger’s Paw Ceramics, where she created some very beautiful ceramic pieces which will be treasured by her family for generations. She later opened her store in El Paseo de Saratoga, Tiger's Paw T-Shirts. HilahJane also worked as a travel agent for 25 years.

Mike was a lifelong Chicago Bears and Cubs fan.  Tiger was a consummate puzzle solver, avid reader, and knitter.

After retiring, Mike and Tiger became world travelers, enjoying many vacations to tropical and exotic places, along with enjoying the cruise ship life; they had an affinity for the tropical locales and their culture, with Fiji and Playa del Carmen, Mexico being amongst their favorites.

After retiring their travels, they adopted a shih tzu named Mollie who now resides with their granddaughter. Tiger had wanted another dog for a long time, but waited until they were sure their traveling days were over. Mollie brought them both so much joy and love and is the biggest, spoiled love bug.

Mike and Tiger are survived by their son Clay Michael (Fernanda “Nan” Peregrino) Hawkins of Gilroy, CA, their son Brett Neal (Nicolette “Nikki” Roe) Hawkins of Fremont, CA, their grandchildren Kirsten Lee (Hawkins) (Brian) Charnoski of Pioneer, CA, Hailey Marie Hawkins of Gilroy, CA, Andrew Michael and Tyler Zachary Hawkins of Fremont, CA, their great-grandchildren, Cydney Jioia and Phoenix Hawkins Charnoski, as well as nephews Douglas and Michael Rex of Iowa.

Mike’s sister, Patricia "Aunt Pat" Lynn (Hawkins) McCann, passed away January 2003 and Tiger’s brother, John Douglas Rex, passed away January 1980.

We will be planning a virtual celebration of life due to social distancing. The date and time will be announced once scheduled.

We would love to hear your memories of Mike and Tiger and appreciate the outpouring of sympathy, prayers, and well wishes.
