Stephen Carberry

Steve Carberry, 64, died at home on Monday, September 8, 2014 due to complications of diabetes. Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 12 at Iles Westover Chapel. Friends are invited to join the family at the Urbandale Golf and Country Club following the service.

Steve was born in Des Moines on November 3, 1949 to William J. and Mary (Kauzlarich) Carberry. He was a graduate of Dowling High School, excelling in baseball. He went on to Iowa State University where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity and met his bride of 44 years, Jane Newberg. Steve was a member of the Urbandale Golf and Country Club for 31 years and a self taught scratch golfer. He was proud to be a multiple year club champion and of finally achieving his quest for a hole-in-one. He enjoyed gardening and watching all sports, especially ice hockey. He will be remembered as a kind man who enjoyed laughing with friends around the picnic table and helping others with support and advice.

Those left to cherish Steve's memory include his wife, Jane; two sons, Todd and Tony (Jen) Carberry; two sisters, Maureen Plevin of Milwaukee, WI and Christine Carberry of Des Moines.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 11 at Iles Westover Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Association P.O. Box 11454 Alexandria, VA 22312.
