JOHN DURAND HILLIS

        John Durand Hillis, 41, of 2705 Fairlawn Drive, West Des Moines, died of cancer Friday at Veterans Medical Center. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Mary’s of Nazareth Catholic Church. The body will be donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences.

        Mr. Hillis was born in Des Moines, and spent most of his life here. He was a self-employed contractor and salesman, an Army veteran and a member of the American Lawn Tennis Association.

        Survivors include his mother, Evelyn Hillis of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Susan Plowman of Bolingbrook, Ill; three brothers, Joseph of Melcher-Dallas, Clint of Austin, Texas and Tom of Fairbanks, Alaska.

        Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
