In Memory

Christopher Lamberto

Christopher Stephen Lamberto

May 5,1949 - June 13, 2022 With deep sorrow, his siblings announce that our brother Chris passed away unexpectedly on June 13, 2022 in Phoenix, AZ of an apparent heart attack. He was 73. The reality breaks our hearts. May he rest in eternal peace. Chris was born at Mercy Hospital in May 1949 while his parents were taking up space in the former WAC military housing at Fort Des Moines. He was predeceased by those parents, Nick and Betty Lou Lamberto of Des Moines, and by his sister, Barbara Lamberto of San Francisco. He is survived by his son Jeryn of Phoenix and his step-son Alec Hart of Los Angeles. He is also survived by his six siblings: Robert Krogh (Gaye) of Phoenix; Michael Lamberto (Pam) of Colorado Springs; Peter Lamberto (no current marital success) of Pine Mountain Club, CA; Laura Lamberto-White (Danny) of Phoenix; Lisa Albright (Alan) of Lytton, IA; and John Lamberto (Crystal) of Des Moines. He is also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews and their spouses and children, all of whom he loved dearly. His beloved nephew Andy Albright of Lytton also predeceased him. Chris was someone easily liked and admired. He was well read, unassuming, tough as a saddle, and kindhearted. Chris was a true believer in social justice. He had the courage to peacefully demonstrate in Iowa City against the carnage of the Vietnam War, in what then was the year of living dangerously (1968) in the United States for those who demonstrated for social justice and against the Vietnam War. Ironically, though not a war hero like his brother Mike, if you were in a foxhole under fire, you’d be praying for survival, and that the guy next to you was a man like Chris. Chris graduated from Dowling High School in 1967 with a degree in survival of his brothers, and from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a business degree. For several years he played for the Des Moines Rugby Club, along the way scoring the winning try against the first U.S.-touring Japanese club, Sanyo, in 1972. Soon thereafter Chris moved to West Lafayette, IN, where he owned a successful document copying business for many years before moving to Phoenix and replicating the success. He then bought a salt distribution business, from which he retired several years ago. When Chris passed away, he was in a good place. He was proud that his sons are doing well in life, and he valued that above everything. Every life has hard times, and Chris didn’t get cheated of his. But he got up one more time than he was knocked to the canvas. “When” we’re counted out is up to the one who does the counting, but it seems it was too soon. To make a contribution in Chris’ memory to some cause he’d like, your local humane society would certainly be appropriate. A private family remembrance is planned for a later date.

Whenever I see an In Memory note my heart sinks a little.  Chris Lamberto's passing is very sad.  I came to Dowling my sophmore year and didn't have the privilege to go to grade school etc with my classmates.  Chris was always friendly, always had a smile on his face.  A handsome and smart guy along with being a good athlete. God Bless Chris and his family.  Joe Kelly, Scottsdale , AZ.
