Robert “Whiplash” W. Snyder

Robert “Whiplash” W. Snyder, 73, passed away Monday, April 25, 2022, at home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 29, at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines. Private burial will be at Glendale Cemetery at a later date. 

Bob was born April 5, 1949, in Des Moines, IA, to Cecil and Clara (Reece) Snyder. He graduated from Dowling High School in 1967, worked at Armstrong Tire, and later worked at Firestone as a quality control supervisor for many years. Bob started his own auto body business out of his garage and then moved the business to East Madison and created Snyder Custom Auto, which he operated for 32 years.  

Bob was a drag racing enthusiast and an essential part of the Vern Moats Racing Team. He also painted several of Vern’s top alcohol funny cars. Bob also enjoyed boating, lake life, relaxing at his pool in his backyard, and was an avid golfer. He loved all of his animals dearly.

Bob is survived by his two nieces, Christine (Rob) Walton of Urbandale, IA and Patricia Dullard of Des Moines, IA; two nephews, Joseph Dullard of Des Moines, IA and Johnny Dullard of Urbandale, IA; great nieces and nephews, Ryan, Emily, Adam, Alex, Katelyn, Layla, Addison, and Gwendolyn; girlfriend, Debra Knight of Des Moines, IA and her daughter, Tracy (Adam) Smith of Altoona, IA; former spouse, Dee Snyder of Ankeny, IA; step-son, David Craven of Des Moines, IA; and step-daughter, Deanna (Tony) Chumbley of Indianola, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara J Dullard.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday, at Iles Westover Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Online condolences will be welcomed at IlesCares.com.
