Rev Gerald Douglas Cardwell

Gerald Cardwell's passing on Monday, December 19, 2022 has been publicly announced by Kemp Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Southfield, MI.  He was born on Sept 22, 1949 in Williamson, West Virginia, and moved to Detroit with his family to Detroit in 1952.  He was president of his Mackenzie graduation class and continued to organize reunions.  In high school he played baseball and ran track, making all city teams in both sports.  He ws also active in R.O.T.C.  He graduated from Eastern Michigan Univ in 1972, a year after marrying Betty Moore, a fellow classmate at Eastern.  Upon graduation they moved to Texas, where he completed officer training and was promoted from Lieutenant to Captain.  He retired from the Army Resrves as a Major.  After returning to Michigan, he began working with General Motors in banking, financing, car service and sales, holding positions in Buffalo and Miami. 

Gerald accepted the call to ministry and pastored at 3 churches.  In 2018 he was diagnosed with Non-Hogkin's Lymphoma Leukemia, and in 2020 was "cancer free".  On December 4, 2022 he was admitted to Beaumont Hospital experiencing breathing difficulty.  He passed on December 19, 2022.

Gerald is survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty; son, Gerard Douglas; daughter Geneen Danielle Martin; son-in-law, Anthony Remy Martin; brother-in-law, Calvin Moore (Ada); many godchildren, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
