November 8, 1940 - December 1, 2015

Roger R. Drake, 75, of Westland, passed away at home December 1, 2015.

Born November 8, 1940 in Detroit, Michigan to Ralph and Eleanor Drake, Roger was an only child.  He grew up in Detroit and graduated from Mackenzie High School in 1958 after which he spent time in the USMC.  Although not a career Marine, Roger continued to identify proudly with the Corps throughout his life.

Upon concluding his time in the Marine Corps, Roger spent his professional life first in Banking then in the Automobile Finance Industry as a Finance Manger working at various dealerships in the Wayne/ Westland and Plymouth / Canton area.

After Roger and Melinda got married they purchased a house in Westland and became members of St. Richard’s Parish.  During this time he was active in the parish as an usher, was involved in running Bingo and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

Roger enjoyed cooking, was an avid golfer for many years and enjoyed rising early on the weekends to get out on the course.  On many other weekends he could be found poolside at his daughter’s swim meets!

Roger was also a huge animal lover and had several furry, four-legged companions over the course of his lifetime.  His most recent little buddy was his cat, Miracle, who was constantly with him during the last several months.  Roger’s feline friend provided him a lot of comfort and evoked smiles from him even as his health declined.

Roger is survived by his daughters Nicole (Sean) Ludwig, Elena (Tony) Takla, granddaughters Alexis Jade Takla and Athena Jewel Takla, his loving friend Melinda Drake and his furry companion Miracle.

A Memorial visitation will be held Friday, December 4, 2015 from 12 - 8 PM at McCabe Funeral Home, 851 N.
