David Skiven, co-director of the Engineering Society of Detroit Institute, has died at age 64.

Skiven was a board member at the ESD from 1998 to 2008. He founded the ESD Institute along with Christopher Webb in 2008 after securing $325,000 in seed funding.

In 2009, Skiven was given the ESD Horace H. Rackham Humanitarian Award.

He previously worked as the executive director of the worldwide facilities group for General Motors Corp.

Skiven also was an ESD Fellow and a trustee of the Rackham Engineering Foundation.
