HAUENSTEIN Class of 1947

RALPH 86, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at home in North Augusta, South Carolina. Mr. Hauenstein was born in Detroit, Michigan to Edwin and Ruth Hauenstein, and he grew up on Northlawn Street in Detroit. Mr. Hauenstein was a 1947 graduate of Mackenzie High School in Detroit, and he was a veteran of the Korean War, where he served 18 months with the U.S. Army combat mapmaking unit, based in Tokyo, Japan. Mr. Hauenstein worked for 30 years as an automotive draftsman with the Chrysler Corporation of Highland Park, Michigan. In 1996 Mr. and Mrs. Hauenstein retired to South Carolina. Mr. Hauenstein is survived by his wife of 65 years, Barbara "Pat" Hauenstein; two sons, Thomas Hauenstein of Boston and Ross Hauenstein of North Augusta; grandsons, Steven (Erin) and Scott (Antasia) Hauenstein; a niece, Sarah (Matt) Trerice; and 6 great-grandchildren. Mr. Hauenstein was predeceased by a son, Glenn Hauenstein in 2015. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 25 from 11 a.m. until time of Memorial Service at 12 noon at 670 West Boston Blvd. (btwn. Woodward Avenue and Third Street), Detroit.
