Val Marie MacLeish, (Class of 1960), 75 of Howell, passed away June 30, 2018 at Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor. Val was born on August 5, 1943 in Detroit to Jane (Robertson) Bennett and the late Charles Bennett.

Celebrating 55 years together, back on June 29, 1963 Val married her high school sweetheart James Archibald MacLeish III. Val was dedicated to her family, and a homemaker who enjoyed sewing, gardening, and the culinary arts. Her strong faith in God directed her steps throughout her life. She was a member of Brighton Assembly of God.

Surviving is her mother Jane Bennett, husband James A. MacLeish III; children Joan MacLeish, James (Cindi) MacLeish, and (Tadd) Jill Lewis. Grandchildren Erin MacLeish, Rachel MacLeish, James MacLeish V, Tyler MacLeish and Alexi Lewis; and her brother Brian Bennett. Val was preceded in death by her daughter Janis MacLeish, granddaughter Tara Lewis, her brother Blake Bennett and her sister Joan (Bennett) Temple.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 6, 2018 at the Brighton Assembly of God at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Bradley Trask, officiating. Visitation begins at 10:00 A.M. at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Pregnancy Help Center, 7743 Grand River Ave. Ste. 101, Brighton MI 48114. Envelopes are available at the church.
