Joyce A. Lemen (Jurgensen 1960)

Obituary of Joyce Lemen Jurgensen

Transitioned peacefully on Dec 14, 2018 with her husband and close friends by her side. She was born in Highland Park, Mi to Audella S. and Ellis C. Lemen who preceded her in death. After graduating from Mackenzie High School in Detroit, Joyce worked while pursuing her higher education at The Univ of Detroit and Wayne State Univ. She eventually received her BA in accounting from Eastern Michigan Univ. Joyce held several accounting positions in both the public and private sectors. While working in public accounting she received her CPA license. She always held a special place in her heart for the work of and the people in the non-profit sectors, especially the Washtenaw County Mental Health Dept. In 1988 she formed an unbreakable, love team with her husband and best friend, Paul, also a CPA. First, they worked together in their accounting practice in Ann Arbor for almost twenty years. Then, in retirement, they sought spiritual growth together at The Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth where Joyce did the accounting for many years and served on the Board of Trustees. Finally, in the roles of patient and caregiver they were together as Joyce fought against her COPD, never losing the sparkle in her eye. Throughout thirty years they rarely left each other’s side While Joyce never had children of her own, she often formed close attachments with younger souls who often viewed her as a surrogate Mom. Lesia, Jackie and Laurie, our “daughters” were able to visit Joyce just prior to her passing and two were with her as she transitioned. In the two years before her death, Joyce renewed a very special, loving connection with her beloved cousin, Ed Stackable, who preceded her in death. Ed’s brother, Cousin Fred Stackable of Leland, survives her. Other close friends who remain with us and who will forever miss Joyce’s warmth and joy include Patti, Sharon, Steve and Vivian. The beauty of Joyce’s life will be celebrated on Sat, Dec 29th at 11:00AM at The Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth, across the street from Costco at 704 Airport Blvd, Ste 1, Ann Arbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Humane Society of Huron Valley or The Interfaith Center for Spiritual Growth.
