KENNETH'S OBITUARY

U.S. Veteran  

Kenneth Russell Grice, Colonel (Retired) U.S. Army, age 75, of Belleville, MI, passed away Monday, December 3, 2018 surrounded by Love, Faith and Family.

He was born November 29, 1943, in Wyandotte, MI, son of Leonard Russell and Eulalia “Dorothy” Grice.  Throughout his life, Ken humbly served God, his country, and his family and friends.  He met his true love and wife, Jan, in middle school in Detroit, MI and also attended Mackenzie High School in Detroit, MI with her.  After 30 years, Ken retired from the U.S. Army as a Colonel at the United States Military Academy, West Point, NY where he was a permanent Professor of Physics as well as a Vice Dean during his tenure at the academy.Ken graduated from West Point in 1966.  He enjoyed watching Army and Michigan Football, hunting, fishing, boating and fellowship with his family and friends.  Above all, Ken enjoyed serving God while serving others.  Jesus was the foundation of his life.Ken was a member of the Belleville First United Methodist Church, Belleville, MI and was instrumental in establishing both the West Point, NY and Belleville/Ypsilanti, MI Young Life ministries.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Janice Elizabeth Grice, three children:  Matthew (Lara) Grice of Rochester Hills, MI, Laura (D. Patrick) Dyer of Belleville, MI and Jonathan (Kristin) Grice of Ann Arbor, MI; 9 grandchildren:  Corinne, Lauren, Kaitlyn, Patrick, Will, Emily, Courtney, Jameson and Kathryn; brother-in-law Michael Raymer of Arizona, two sisters-in-law Martha (Roger Lefever) McLean and Kathryn (John) McNamara, both of Sterling Heights, MI, also several nieces, nephews, colleagues, veterans and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, newborn son Richard Russell Grice and his sister, Marian Raymer.

Dignified cremation rites have been accorded with full military honors.  A Gathering is planned for Friday, 12/14, from 2pm-8pm EST at David C. Brown Funeral Home, 460 E. Huron River Dr, Belleville, Michigan 48111, and a Memorial Service and Celebration is set for Saturday, 12/15, at 11am EST at Belleville First United Methodist Church, 417 Charles St, Belleville, MI 48111.
